Spring Seminars @ SHS
The Sonoma Humane Society is pleased to announce that Trish King, nationally known canine behaviorist, certified professional trainer and behavior consultant, author of Parenting Your Dog, and speaker at some of the nation's most prestigious animal conferences (APDT, HSUS, AHA, ASPCA, and many more) will be presenting two dog behavior seminars at SHS.
If you've ever witnessed a dog fight in a dog park, you know they can be dangerous places for our pets to play. They can also be a great resource, if used wisely. In this seminar, we will examine canine body language so that we can decide when dogs are having fun, when action needs to be taken to stop a problem before it begins, or when to leave to return another day. Cost: $40
Dogs use body language to talk to other dogs...and to us. Though they can vocalize, it's not their primary communication tool. Instead, they convey emotions and intentions by what they do, not what they say. Reading such communication is an art, which takes knowledge and practice. In this seminar, we'll discuss the various methods dogs use to tell us what they're thinking and what they need. Cost: $40

Training Tip: Loose-Leash Walking
Spring has sprung and the beautiful weather beckons us to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. What better way to soak up the sun than on a walk with your canine companion? Teaching your dog to walk politely on leash can turn a frustrating walk into one both you and your dog can enjoy.
Why train loose-leash walking? To spare your arms-and your dog's trachea. It is not fun or safe for you to have a dog take you for a walk, and pulling while wearing a collar can actually damage your dog's throat. Training your dog to walk without pulling on the leash is better for everyone.
