For the love of quirky little dogs
Stand-offish... Snappy... Yappy... Not exactly qualities you seek out in a furry Valentine, right? First impressions aren't always accurate though! In hopes of making some major love matches, we go undercover to expose what's really going on behind the behavior of some of our "littles"...
Unapproachable me.
Oswald's menacing scowl indicates he's not a fan of strangers coming up and grabbing him - even if he is irresistibly tiny and adorable. (In an informal survey we discovered that most humans don't dig it too much either.) Everything changes though, once you earn his trust. Spotted in a more natural environment (curled up on the couch with foster mom and resident cat), Oswald's true identity is revealed: Supreme Snuggle Bug!!! Best love match for Oswald? A quiet home where his boundaries will be respected and he can shower his person with
unwavering devotion!
Piranahs or pugs-gone-wild?
The two-headed pug-a-saurous known as DizzyandMolly approaches you with underbites a-snappin'. Do they want to eat you alive or just smother you in adoring kisses? Fearless Adoption Counselor Misty not only survived the experience, but was one of the few of us not to catch a cold this winter. Coincidence, or the probiotic qualities of double doggie kisses in action? You decide! Best love match for Dizzy and Molly? Someone who can meet their demands for copious amounts of affection!
Warning! Walking by Sadie and Knuckles' habitat window may cause a spontaneous yappy hour. Tempted to walk on by in favor of choices less vocal? We recommend that you give them another chance. This sweet duo came to SHS after their owner passed away. The world seemed like a big, scary place to them - and unfortunately strangers sometimes do too. But give them a minute to warm up and you'll be rewarded with a couple of outgoing and affectionate friends for life! Best love match for Sadie and Knuckles? A loving home where they let their guard down and feel secure!
Are you up to the little dog challenge? Our Adoption Counselors can assist you in successful introductions to our pint-sized adoptables and provide resources to enhance great behavior! View pet profiles or call (707) 542-0882 for more info.

Raider's Fund: Funded by Love

Pet owners experiencing extreme financial hardship are sometimes faced with difficult decisions when their beloved pet has a medical crisis. But thanks to the kindness of strangers, there exists a very special resource designed to help in times of need. In 2008, Raider's Fund was established by a generous donor to help clients of Sonoma Humane Society's Public Veterinary Hospital who are at risk of being separated from their beloved pet due to inability to pay full veterinary costs. Those who don't qualify for Care Credit can seek support from Raider's Fund - as long as they are able to pay at least a portion of the costs and their pet has a good prognosis for quality of life after treatment.
To avoid having the pet surrendered to the shelter due to lack of other resources, we can access this fund to help those in need. Our public hospital director, Dr. Lin, says that he leans on Raider's Fund about twice a month and that the fund is currently depleted. Would you consider making a donation so we can be ready to help the next loving pet owner who needs it?
