When Iggy met Edna: two lives improved by love

Iggy's arrival at SHS was one of those moments that grabs your heart and steels your

Iggy upon arrival

determination to make everything right. His severely matted hair riddled with debris and his withdrawn demeanor told of a dog who had been surviving in very neglectful conditions. Unrecognizable as a toy poodle mix (almost unrecognizable as a dog), we didn't know what kind of impact this complete disregard would have on his physical or emotional health. We just hoped that he could go on to have a good life.

He was not too pleased while our veterinary technicians carefully clipped his fur, but just as soon as he was relieved of the heavy matted clumps, his mood brightened and a sweet personality emerged. As Iggy adjusted to his new environment, he became more and more playful. He won us over with his wiggly little body and tail wags. Thankfully, besides needing to be neutered and treated for fleas, Iggy's health appeared to be as good as his disposition.

During his behavior assessments, Iggy remained a little cautious in new situations but once he warmed up to people, he would engage us by spinning, dancing and being very treat-motivated. When our Outreach team took him to an event

for our Senior Pet Program, he caught the eye of a wonderful lady named Edna who was looking to adopt a companion. On a recent follow up visit to Edna's home, we saw that Iggy clearly loves his new life with her. He showed off his new

Iggy safe in the arms of his new mom

bed and then spent the rest of our visit on Edna's lap! From the loving look we saw in her eyes as she

doted on her Iggy, we can tell that these two are bringing a lot of comfort and happiness to each other.

We're always amazed and humbled by the resilience of an animal who comes out of a terrible situation and greets life with an excited expectancy. And we're always touched when the animal finds a good human to give them all the love they deserve. These transformations from unwanted to loved, valued and cared for make our work all worthwhile! It's what we want for each animal in our care.

Sonoma Humane Society's Angel's Fund enables us to care for animals like Iggy and give them the TLC they need until they find their own Edna! Help us keep up the good work by contributing here.

Healdsburg

 Healdsburg Center Happenings!

Now that we've added the Healdsburg community to our area of service, we are seeing a lot more furry faces trying to find their way back home. Universal microchip scanners help us re-unite animals with their owners every day. As the number of animals we are helping increases, we could really benefit from 5 more scanners. The estimated cost for 5 scanners is $1,700 so we're raising funds! Can you help us reach our goal?

Visit our Shelter Wish List for more information.
