A Safe Haven for Animals
December 2013

At the close of another year, we gratefully "paws" to wish you a happy holiday season. Our heartfelt thanks for helping us help homeless animals in Sonoma County. May your holidays be warm and fuzzy and your new year bright!

Just in time for all the merry-making , we present our

Top 10 Reasons to Adopt a Pet this Holiday Season

  1. Cold ears? Forget earmuffs and let a pair of kitties wrap themselves around your head instead.
  2. Who needs mistletoe when you can have an unlimited supply of doggie kisses?
  3. Keep your heating costs down by cuddling up with a pet each night. Hint: the bigger the dog, the lower your thermostat!
  4. Built in entertainment: kittens dive-bombing piles of discarded wrapping paper are tons more fun than boring holiday reruns!
  5. Bogged down with the extra washing up from all that entertaining? Dogs are eager to help with cleaning plates. They'll get the job done in a lick.
  6. Dreading the chore of taking down decorations after the holidays? Let the cats help - they'll be happy to swat down those ornaments.
  7. Feet tired after a long day of shopping? Let a warm, furry cat or dog curl up on them for instant relief.
  8.  Need a break from being cooped up with relatives? Walking the dog is your go-to excuse!
  9.  Avoid holiday weight gain by some cardio disco dance sessions with your pets.
  10. Your family will look a whole lot cuter in holiday photos with the addition of a furry face or two.
*(Disclaimer: The above list was brought to you in the spirit of good fun. We know you wouldn't really wear kitties as ear muffs or let your dog lick the dishes, right?)

Taylor and Coconut:
Double Happiness

Taylor and Coconut forged such a tight friendship while they roomed together at SHS, we knew they'd be happiest going to a forever home together. As FIV+ kitties, that new home would need to be equipped with an extra-loving person who would keep them indoors and monitor their well-being. We were so happy when such a person did step into their lives. Their new mom's cat had recently passed away and she was ready with room in her heart and home for some feline companionship. She reports that the boys are an absolute joy to live with. And from the looks of things Taylor and Coconut are pretty happy about it too. Daily activities for these lucky guys now includes curling up in their own comfy chairs, and being pampered with daily brushing and adoration sessions.

Subject: Mission Accomplished!

We get so excited with each and every adoption that takes place here at Sonoma Humane Society and when an older animal gets to go home, it's extra poignant. 10 year old Julia had been here just long enough for all of us to fall madly in love with her. With her fun personality, beautiful disposition and unique hound dog traits she really worked her way into our hearts. She did a number on her new dad's heart as well. This kind soul was on a mission to provide a loving home to an older dog in need of a second chance, and he decided that Julia was the one. Check out their sweet new family portrait-it sure fills the heart with happiness, doesn't it?
