Grayson's  search for companionship.                                                                 June 2013

The Future as I See it

Although the Humane Society has told me that I can stay as long as I need to, they know it's really important for me to find my next home right away. I have lots to learn over the coming months -- from someone who will teach me how to live and be safe in a landscape that I will see changing every day.

My name is Grayson and I hope you'll read my story!

Handsome Grayson, with his vibrant youth, affable nature and loads of loving affection--will soon discover that his sense of smell will eventually eclipse all of his other senses. Why? Because he's in the slow process of losing his eyesight at the young age of one as a result of Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)--a non-painful condition he was born with. Another dog in your home may be able to act as a 'sighted guide' for this loveable lad. Grayson's ongoing training--specifically, his ability to connect with verbal cues like 'step' and 'door'-is going to be vital to his overall well-being as he sniffs out a very special dog-savvy owner--maybe someone like you?--to partner with him for a lifetime of love.

Joyful and healthy in every other way, Grayson has endless love to share, and needs a nurturing, loving home that matches his sweet, easygoing nature and genuine zest for life. Can you help Grayson find his forever home? Please help us help Grayson in any way you can including sharing his story on facebook. We'll provide all the tips you'll need for his success.

After all, no effort is too great when a life is at stake.

Baby Kittens Need Foster Homes

Just one of many litters arriving daily

Inspire unconditional love.

Become a foster parent for one or more baby kittens.

Foster Volunteers make all the difference. Right now, every time we re-count our kittens, we find more mouths to feed. So we came up with this nifty equation:

more kittens = more foster parents needed

Willing to share your love for six to eight weeks? We'll show you how.

Can't foster but want to help? Donate a snuggle kitty.

Animal Rescue Transport Vehicle Needed
Don't worry, we'll drive!

Help us bring animals to safety! Do you have a used (2005 or newer) mini or cargo van that you'd consider donating to the Sonoma Humane Society? Our 1994 Aerostar is beyond repair and we are desperately in need of a replacement van for animal transport activities! If you'd like to be our rescue hero by donating a vehicle, please contact Don Malone, Operations Director, at 577-1917. Thank you for being a hero!

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder
Opal

Beauty comes from within. That's how Opal sees it anyway. Arriving here just a couple of weeks ago, Opal's right eye was ten times its normal size and ulcerated beyond repair. Our vet team went to work, surgically removing her eye which gave Opal much needed relief. The afternoon of her surgery, Opal was kneading her blanket and purring for the first time!   Within 24 hours, her sparkly inner beauty revealed a super sweet, delightful and playful soul just waiting to start her life with a new forever friend. Could that be you? Opal is doing GREAT with her foster family and will be available for adoption soon!

Something to Chew on...

Seeking a soothing companion? Consider bringing home a rabbit or two. Besides being highly skilled in multiplication, rabbits are known to decrease stress, increase comfort, and mitigate all the random bits in between. Here at SHS, we've got oodles of delightful rabbits ready to usher you into the zen zone.

Hamlet

There's Hamlet and Horatio, for instance. Two 8-month old brothers who hop to the philosophy of less is more. From affably calm to frolicking jigs, Hamlet will elevate your endorphins and take the edge off of your week.

Horatio

Horatio is way cuter than your old baby pictures--in fact, we think he may have been Ghandi's pal in an earlier life. As a proponent of peace and joy, he has a way of melting your stress away any time of day.

" I didn't think our car was worth anything! I called the Sonoma Humane Society's Car Donation Program and could not be happier. It was super easy and I'm astonished to learn that over $3,000 was raised by my donation."
