Susan Denton to Depart as Director of Admissions
Susan Denton became a parent at ESK in 2000. She and her husband, Hal, were supportive parents here for 13 years.  Their three children, Hal, Sam and Riley are ESK graduates and during their time at ESK, Susan served as Parent Association President and Gala Chair. For the past eleven years, Susan Denton has capably managed numerous jobs at the Episcopal School of Knoxville.  There has never been a task too small or large for Susan to tackle with enthusiasm and creativity. She has certainly played an important part in ESK's growth and development as a leading private school in Knoxville. Ever refining the admissions and financial aid process, Susan has been responsible for the welcoming and efficient admission program that we have today. She has made certain that incoming students are the "right fit' and that their families will be sound members of our school community. Our dramatic growth in student enrollment has occurred under Susan's dedicated leadership.

Alice Smith has accepted the position as Director of Admissions for the 2015-16 academic year. Everyone knows Alice at ESK! She has been an assistant teacher, coach, Development Office Associate and Director of Special Events; all since her arrival on campus in 2008. Alice knows our community, is capable and detail oriented, and has a sound track record in her many endeavors at ESK. We conducted a national search for this position and found Alice to be our choice. She brings her strategic thinking skills, warmth, and knowledge of or our academic program and school culture.

I know that you will join me in congratulating Susan for a "job well done" and welcoming Alice as the new leader in the Admissions Office.

Portfolio Artifact Fair
It was a great day at ESK on Wednesday as students, faculty and parents viewed the artifact component of the Eighth Grade portfolio projects. The students have been working on the projects for a majority of the year and put their creations on display Friday. Some of the artifacts included several paintings, a full-size replica of the phone booth from Dr. Who, a handmade tennis racket, a robotics table and a life-size costume for a Marvel comic book character. The artifacts will be displayed again on Portfolio Night, April 16. Great job, Eighth Graders!

Letter Writing Campaign
On Wednesday afternoon, the Annual Fund Committee came together to write letters to fellow parents encouraging them to donate to the Annual Fund. The Development Office is striving for 100% parent participation this year, so if you haven't given yet please consider donating. The class with the highest participation by Thursday, April 2, will win a parent reception to be held in early May.

ESK Welcomes Troop 246!
On Tuesday evening, Headmaster Jay Secor had the pleasure of welcoming Boy Scout Troop 246 for their first official meeting on ESK campus. ESK will serve as home to the Troop which is now chartered by the school. With nearly 25 scouts in attendance, it was a great evening of scouting activity in the Middle School Dining Hall. With numerous Eagle Scout Projects on the horizon you may soon see evidence of the Boy Scouts impact on our campus. Troop 246 is a very active group with an emphasis on outdoor activities of all kinds and all ESK boys are encouraged to consider joining the Troop. For more information on Troop 246 please contact Scoutmaster Craig Borneman at ckborne@gmail.com.

Happy 103rd Birthday, Girl Scouts!
Next Thursday, March 12th, marks the 103rd birthday of Girl Scouting in the United States.  The first Girl Scout troop was started in Savannah, Georgia by founder Juliette Gordon Low.  Since its inception, Scouts have worked to make the world a better place while upholding the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

On March 12th, ESK will be commemorating the service of our Girl Scout troops in a special recognition in Lower School chapel.  All Girl Scouts are encouraged to wear their vest or sash to be honored.

Also on this day, members of ESK Troop 20450 will be conducting a time-honored Girl Scout tradition by selling cookies during both morning and afternoon carpool.

Cookies are $4.00/box and include favorites such as Thin Mints and Samoas, as well a new variety, Rah Rah Raisins.  Cash is preferred.  Money raised through cookie sales help fund service projects in the community as well as sending girls to badge earning activities throughout the year.  Your support is appreciated!
Guidance News

There will be special guest speakers in Guidance classes the next two weeks (March 9-13 and March 23-27) for students in grades 1, 3, 5 and 6-8.  Educators from Helen Ross McNabb will be offering a personal safety program. The program for lower school grades is called SKILLS (Supporting Kids in Learning Life Safety); classes will focus on teaching basic and personal safety skills:  safe vs. unsafe touch, listening to their instincts, and identifying trusted adults if they feel scared or unsafe.  The middle school program, LIMITS (Learning Important Messages in Teen Safety), will focus on healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, internet safety, utilizing safe adults, and bullying prevention.
