Valentine Delivery Systems

Third Grade students hosted their 12th annual museum of Valentine Delivery Systems on Thursday. The spirited event featured magical devices made of simple machines such as lever, wedge, inclined plane and screw on display for the whole school population. Each device must use three simple machines, and each device must really deliver Valentines. The children come up with outrageous pieces of equipment that used pulleys, levers, inclined planes, ramps, Lego cars, toilet paper tubes, wheels, spools, rolling pins, boxes, plastic water bottles, a pinewood derby car, and lots of duct tape. The third grade teachers, Megan Jenkins and Ashley Parham, prime the children each year by showing them how the different simple machines work and examples from years past as inspiration for the project.

KISL Basketball Tournament Recap

Both the ESK Varsity Girls and JV boys basketball teams wrapped up their seasons in the KISL Tournament this week last.

Last Friday, the Varsity Girls competed in the KISL Championship Game. The girls finished the season 15-3 and were seeded third in the league. Friday's night game was a great match against St. Joseph's, the tournament's No. 1 seed. The game was high energy, intense and well played by both teams. The girls ended up tying up the game in fourth quarter and the game went into overtime. ESK ended up loosing by three, but could not have played a better, more aggressive game. The varsity girls left with the title of runner-up and could have not been more proud of themselves.

The Saints JV basketball team closed out its season with an overall record of 10-7. The Saints moved to the second round of the KISL tournament before losing to the Christian Academy of Knoxville. The Saints tallied impressive wins, including victories over St. Joseph's, Knoxville Christian Academy, Maryville Christian and Concord Christian.

In total, five different ESK basketball players earned post-season honors. On the Varsity Boys team, Eighth Grader Riley Schumaker was named all-league. The Varsity Girls had three individual awards. Caroline Gheen was given All-League award and Addie Dewhirst and Bailey Musrock were given All-Tournament awards. Seventh-grader Ben Lovely also earned all-KISL honors for his play in the regular season.

Catholic High School Robotics Team Visit

The team from Catholic also showed the students how their robot from competition last year worked. The team's advisor Mr. Doug Parris was also in attendance Thanks to the team for sharing with our students!
