The mission of The Episcopal School of Knoxville is to prepare students for higher education and a lifetime of learning within the context of a loving, inclusive and family-centered community. We enrich our students' intellectual, physical, cultural and spiritual growth so that they may realize their potential as children of God and citizens of the world.

Another fun and exciting week has come and gone at ESK! Time truly does fly when all students, faculty and staff are having a great time!

Cake in the Face Challenge

In honor of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness month, Middle School students in Ms. McIntosh's advisory participated in a Cake-to-the-Face Challenge, similar to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, Monday afternoon at carpool. Each student smashed a cupcake in their face and donated to Project Walk Atlanta, an organization dedicated to rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries. Sarah Perez, one of our eighth grade advisees, receives therapy at Project Walk Atlanta every weekend, and we will be sending all proceeds to the organization for her benefit. Ms. McIntosh and her students challenge the rest of the middle school advisories and so far, Ms. O'Donnell's and Mrs. Lovely's advisories have accepted the challenge. In total, ESK has raised over $2,000 for Project Walk in Atlanta. Check out the ESK Facebook page for video from Monday.

Flik Dining Grand Opening

Monday marked the first day of operation for Flik Independent School Dining at ESK. Prior to the first lunch, The Rev. Joshua A. Hill led faculty and students in a blessing and prayer for the new endeavor. Following the blessing, ESK Junior Kindergarten students cut a purple ribbon to signify the opening of the new lunch program. Just a reminder, you can find the daily lunch menu on the mySchool Dining app.

United Way Campaign

ESK faculty and staff welcomed The People's Bank president Shane Jackson to kick off the annual United Way of Greater Knoxville's fundraising campaign. Each year, faculty and staff pledge donations to support the United Way and its several charities. ESK is an important part of the Knoxville community, and this is just one example of how the faculty and staff show their support for Knoxville and its citizens.

Withers Donation

Be sure to stop by the Martha Ann Withers Garden, the courtyard outside St. Bartholomew's Chapel, to check out the new benches that were delivered this week. Thanks to a donation from Mr. Bob Withers, the benches are a much-welcomed addition to this beautiful area of campus. Thank you, Mr. Withers!

Vienna Coffee Fundraiser

The ESK Parents' Association launched its annual fundraiser last week. This year, the PA is joining with Vienna Coffee to create a simple stream of monthly revenue for the ESK PA and, at the same time, show support of a local coffeehouse!

Here's how it works:

Eighty percent of the parents at ESK drink at least 1-2 cups of coffee each day. Why not have those coffee drinking habits help support our school and our students! Instead of buying coffee from the local grocery or Starbucks, you can now buy the highest quality coffee from www.viennacoffeeco.com and $3.00 from every bag of coffee purchased will be given back to the school. If you, your spouse, or your company, are coffee drinkers, this is a great opportunity to buy coffee AND SUPPORT ESK.

Go to www.viennacoffeeco.com and support ESK PA today! Click here for video with step-by-step directions for ordering. If you have any questions, please contact PA President Katherine Fielden at kikifielden@gmail.com.

Girl Scout News

Sleepers in September Drive a Success

The first Sleepers in September Drive conducted by Girl Scout Troop 20450 was a huge success thanks to the generous ESK community. Over 140 sleepers were collected and will be donated to the local charity Newborns in Need. ESK Parent Amy Spinell also donated some beautiful handmade crocheted blankets that will be cherished by the families who receive them. Our youngest students, members of the new Junior Kindergarten, created cards with inspiring messages that will accompany the sleepers. Special thanks to Mrs. Nancy Laurence, Lower School Director, Mr. Red Waller, Middle School Director, and Father Josh Hill for the enthusiastic promotion of our first service project of the school year.
