Sleepers in September Drive

Girl Scout Troop 20450 is conducting the Sleepers in September drive to benefit the local charity Newborns in Need. From Sept. 1-12, members will be collecting sleepers (pajamas with feet) to donate to newborns in our area. Many of the donations will benefit babies in area hospital neo-natal intensive care units. The sleepers must be new, in sizes preemie - 18 months. The greatest need is for preemie, newborn and 0-3 month sizes. Items may be dropped off in bins located in the Lower School, Middle School and near the Dining Hall. Partnering with Troop 20450 for this service project are Junior Kindergartener students who are making thoughtful cards to accompany the donated sleepers. We would appreciate your support in this inaugural effort. If you have any questions, please contact Kimberly Stapleton at  ecokim1970@gmail.com.

Cub Scout News

Campfire Circle

On August 13, ESK's Cub Scout Pack 926 was pleased to hold its first meeting at the new Campfire Circle constructed this summer by the Scouts as a service project for ESK. The Campfire Circle, which will serve as the site for Pack 926 meetings and other school events, is located in the woods in the northwest section of the school property, and is accessible from the ESK Nature Trails starting behind the chicken coop and greenhouse areas. Father Josh Hill helped dedicate the Campfire Circle with a prayer at the meeting, which also included a ceremony in which ESK 6th grader Ryan Steadman received the Arrow of Light and crossed over from WEBELOS to Boy Scouts.

Library News

Library Volunteers Needed

Lower School Librarian Miranda Clark is looking for library volunteers to help with library classes and the management of the lower school library collection. Volunteers are welcome in all capacities, either as pop-in book shelvers or regularly scheduled class helpers. Please contact Miranda at clark@esknoxville.org to let her know if you are interested.

Birthday Books

You may donate a book to the ESK Libraries in honor of a special student's birthday. Simply visit Renweb and submit the Birthday Book Web Form. Mrs. Lovely or Mrs. Clark will select a book for the birthday girl or boy and present it during Chapel.

Your family account will be charged $25. A book plate honoring the birthday student will be placed in the book, and it will become a wonderful new part of our library collection. Thanks for supporting our libraries.

Lower School Library Books

Lower school students happily began checking out books this week, so check your students' bag to see if a great new bedtime story has come home with them. Students in grades K-2 are allowed to check out 2 books at a time. Students in grades 3-5 are allowed to check out the same number of books as their grade level. All students may keep their library books for up to a week. Parents are also encouraged to borrow books and may check out additional books for their children. Library materials may also be renewed as long as no one else is waiting for them to be returned. The school library is a wonderful place to begin practicing the procedures of borrowing and returning, so please help your student remember to return their books on their library day. No late fees are charged for library books, however students may not check out new books until their old books are returned. If in the unfortunate event that a library book is lost or severely damaged a replacement fee will be requested.
