With the addition of the Junior Kindergarten class, several Lower School grades have moved to new locations in The Brewington Family Lower School. Kindergarten is now located across the hall from the music and art rooms while Third Grade has moved across from Fourth Grade, into the classrooms once occupied by the Fifth Grade. While awaiting completion of the new Lower School addition, Mr. Spates' Fifth Grade class will be in the Chapel and Mrs. Stivers' class will be across the hall from the LS library. Please be aware of these new locations prior to arriving on the first day of school.

Robotics Revolution

ESK Lower School Director Nancy Laurence, along with First Grade teacher Chris Bishop and Second Grade teacher Parri Thurman attended Robotics Revolution over the weekend, an event presented by The Muse Knoxville. The event, which was held at the Jacobs Building in Chilhowee Park, was meant to inspire young minds to develop an interest and passion in engineering, technology and robotics. As part of the day, Nancy, Chris and Parri, along with Ben, from L&N Stem Academy and Gary Steadman, an ESK parent, participated in a robot building competition and took first prize! The winner robot was named the ESK Minibot. Great work!

6th Grade Welcome

Rising ESK Sixth Grade students were treated to a special evening prior to the start of school as the Middle School teachers hosted a Sixth Grade Welcome Night. Spearheaded by teachers Carol O'Donnell and Sheau-Fei Huang, students were welcomed to campus and given the opportunity to meet their fellow students and teachers and also to become familiar with the layout of the middle school during a scavenger hunt. Additionally, Sixth Graders were also given the opportunity to ask current 7th and 8th graders any questions they might have had about the transition to middle school. Thanks to everyone who made this event a great success!

Safety First!
Our doors are locked during the day, so please use the main entrances of the Lower School and the Middle School. There the receptionists will buzz you in. Please note: This is a non-smoking campus at all times.

School Arrivals & Traffic Safety

In the morning, when parking to walk your child to class, please do not park along the inner carpool circle. For safety reasons, we ask that you not cross a lane of traffic with your children. Instead, park in the spaces provided on the outer edge of the traffic circle. Please drive in a counter-clockwise direction only, bearing to the right as you drive around the circle.

Please drive to the farthest point in the carpool circle. This means that Lower School parents may be directed to drive past the entrance of the Brewington Lower School to a place on the curb directly in back of the auto stopped in front of you. Be assured that a member of our faculty or administration will be on hand to open your car door and make sure that your child is headed on his or her way to the lower school steps. Likewise, Middle School students are asked to disembark at their vehicle's stopping point. This may mean a longer walk to Googe Hall; however this will allow us to keep up the pace of our car line. Once you arrive at the carpool circle, please make sure that your child (ren) are ready to leave your auto. This means that they are wearing their coats and have their backpacks ready. Also, please do not pass stopped cars in the line unless directed by a member of our staff. All of this is our attempt to ensure that your child arrives in class safely and without delay.

In the afternoon, Carpool Director Pansie Evans asks that drivers prominently display carpool folders on their passenger visors. Please be patient as we learn to recognize cars and family members!

Morning Care

Students who arrive before 7:30 a.m. should go to the Bishop Center Dining Room where they will be cared for by our morning care staff until the appropriate time. Lower school students will be escorted, and middle schoolers will be dismissed, to class. We ask this to ensure proper supervision and to allow our teachers to prepare for the day ahead. Students using Morning Care after 7:30 am will not be charged because of the short duration of care. Please remember that all students are welcome at Morning Care beginning at 7 a.m. (fee applies), where a delicious breakfast is served. Details: Call Jeanie Fewell at ext. 295 or 224.
