Shrove Tuesday Pancake Breakfast

This year's Shrove Tuesday pancake breakfast will take place next week, Tuesday, March 4th, with food served from 7:00 - 8:00 a.m. The $5/person ticket price can be either charged to student accounts or can be paid in cash on the morning of the breakfast.

Parent volunteers are needed from 6:30-8am in any amount of time from 30 to 90 minutes, contact Erika Letsinger via email at letsinger@esknoxville.org. Griddles to be loaned for the event can be dropped off this week, or by Monday, March 3, to Mr. Hoffman in room135.

This year, Mr. Hoffman's advisory has worked with Renee Nye and the ESK kitchen to take care of the food prep and service logistics. Middle school students will still be doing the actual cooking of the pancakes, cleaning, and tending to table needs. Thank you for supporting this great event!

Ash Wednesday Services

We will mark the arrival of Lent with Ash Wednesday services on March 5. The services will include the imposition of ashes and the celebration of Holy Communion. Grades K-5 will attend at 8 a.m. in St. Bartholomew's Chapel and grades 6-8 at 10:15 a.m. Ash Wednesday is the first of the forty days of Lent, and is named for the custom of placing blessed ashes on the foreheads of worshipers. The ashes symbolize our being sorry for the wrong things we have said or done that have kept us from being close to God and other people.

Portfolio Artifact Fair

Peter Cooper

It was a great day at ESK last Friday as students, faculty and parents viewed the artifact component of the Eighth Grade portfolio projects. The students have been working on the projects for a majority of the year and put their creations on display Friday.

Ethan Johnson

Some of the artifacts included several paintings, Adirondack chairs made out of wake boards, a chainmail helmet, a video game, a man made out of rice crispy treats and 3D buildings printed at the school. The artifacts will be displayed again on Portfolio Night, April 28. Great job, Eighth Graders!

WrAP Assessments

A special thank you to all students and teachers for their great work during the WrAP assessment this week. It is an important test, and the students' concentration was appreciated.

Please remember, ERB's CTP, the achievement test, will be given in April. Lower School students will take the CTP the week of April 8 with Middle School students testing the week of April 14. For any questions about assessments, please contact your child's teacher or Lois Ross, Director of Testing.

Recycling Plastic Bags & Films

Did you know that a wide variety of plastic bags, films and wraps can go in retail store bins with plastic bags? These include bags and films using Resin Identification Codes #2 and #4, and items with the How2Recycle Store Drop-Off label. However, these can NOT go into curbside bins (with a few exceptions). To find out more about what you can recycle in these bins, and to find recycling locations, visit the link below. You can also keep your eyes open for bins at your favorite grocery stores, department stores, and retailers.

Why not just use the plastic numbers?

The majority of the public do not understand the Resin Identification Codes, and mistakenly believe that the chasing arrows and number mean that flexible films and bags can go into curbside recycling bins. The How2Recycle Label is used across all materials, not just plastics, and provides more detail on where these materials can actually be recycled. The good news is that most of us have more access to recycling plastic bags, wraps and films than ever before!
