Check in will be in Googe Hall that morning and then families can enjoy light refreshments, Santa photos (bring your own camera!), fun crafts, basket auctions, the Holiday Market (bigger and better than ever this year!), bounce house, Christmas music throughout the event and more! Work Builders Block Party

Four years ago Ryan Steadman, a current ESK fifth grader, started a business named Work Builders, which makes building block sets for kids. All along he's shared half his earnings with local charities. Wanting to do more for kids less fortunate, he then created the "Work Builders Block Party", a community volunteer project making building block toys for kids in need. With his two previous block parties, Ryan has donated over 200 sets of building blocks to charity. This year you can help him make block sets that will go to Helen Ross McNabb Center. While you're at Winterfest, spend a little time at the block party and help support kids in our community! Visit Work Builders on Facebook.

Robotics Teams Qualify for State

ESK's two robotics teams competed this past Saturday at Hardin Valley Academy in the FIRST Lego League Regional Qualifier tournament, along with 18 other teams. Teams competed in Robot Performance, Research Project, Technical Interview, and Core Values Interview rounds. The Saints B team impressed the judges in the Core Values interview, and brought home the Teamwork Award. Both Saints A and Saints B qualified to compete again at the state FLL championship, December 7 at Tennessee Tech.

Holy Eucharist

Both Lower School and Middle School students celebrated Holy Eucharist in honor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary on Tuesday morning. Father Josh spoke about the meaning of Thanksgiving and how we can remember that feeling throughout the year.

Fantasy of Trees

Be sure to head down to the Knoxville Convention Center over the Thanksgiving holiday and check out the ESK tree at the Fantasy of Trees: Christmas on Main Street. Part of an annual tradition, ESK's tree this year is decorated in a "Pop Art" theme. Students in all grade levels worked on ornaments during art class over the last few weeks. Ornaments range from papier mache ice cream cones and cupcakes to hamburgers and other ornaments inspired by such pop art artists as Keith Haring and Andy Warhol.

The event runs Nov. 27- Dec. 1 at the Knoxville Convention Center and costs $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 4-12 and children under 4 are free.

For more information on the event and show time each day, please visit www.FantasyofTrees.org.

Middle School Life Policy

Math Olympiad

Fifth through Eighth Grade Math Olympians at ESK took their first contest challenge consisting of five math problems to complete within 26 minutes. Math Olympians across the United States and in 11 countries competed in the first contest. Scores were entered and results should be available soon!

An example of the types of problems on the contest includes: a palindrome is a whole number, which reads the same forward as backwards. The number 17571 is a palindrome while 1234 is not. Find the least sum of two palindromic years after the year 2013, such that the sum is not a palindrome.

Annual Fund Phonathons a Success

The Development Office at ESK would like to thank all those who donated during the recent nights' phonathon calling. Nearly $40,000 has been raised towards the school's goal. A special thanks goes out to the volunteers who gave up their time to make the phone calls and to the nightly chairs (Rhonda Rice, Cate Biggs and Cynthia Gibson) for their work to make the events possible.

If you'd like to make your gift to the Annual Fund today, you can do so by contacting Director of Development Ryan Sparks or by visiting our online giving site and making an online donation.

Snow Closing Policy

If we experience rough winter weather, please remember our snow closing policy. We do not follow the public schools' snow day schedule. Based on hazardous road conditions, we may be closed for the day or may open late. School closings or late opening announcements will be made via our Parent Alert text, Twitter alerts and voice mail system as well as on local radio and television stations by 7:00 a.m. If road conditions deteriorate later, the school may announce that it is closed for the entire day. Therefore, it is important to keep listening for updates.

Coats for the Cold

ESK families - Please help out this local cause! Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) is collecting winter coats for distribution in December. Drop off your old winter coats at any KARM store or Prestige Cleaners location before November 30!

Coats for the Cold has been a Knoxville tradition for over 25 years. It was begun by WIVK-FM when a news story reported that a homeless man froze to death on the streets of Knoxville one cold winter night. Since then, Coats for the Cold strikes a powerful chord each year within the volunteer spirit of East Tennessee. Knox Area Rescue Ministries now spearheads the coat drive in partnership with WIVK-FM and WVLT-TV, who help broadcast the message each year. Prestige Cleaners picks up, cleans and delivers all the donated coats to KARM Stores who manage all storage and distribution of the coats. In 2012 East Tennessee donated nearly 11,000 coats to keep those in need warm.
