We enrich our students' intellectual, physical, cultural and spiritual growth so that they may realize their potential as children of God and citizens of the world.

Art News

Support Art in Your School!
It is Original Works time again. For those of you new to the school, this is an opportunity to have your child's art on a product such as a t-shirt or night light. The merchandise is of good quality and very popular among our students. All profit goes toward the ESK art program. In the past, we have been able to buy pottery wheels and a printing press with your support.

Lower School students should have received a packet earlier this week and Middle School students can obtain a packet through Mr. Hoffman.Your child has the liberty to complete artwork at home as well. The work must be 8-1/2 x 11 and on card stock-- no glitter, metallic colors, or three-dimensional material. This opportunity will last until Nov. 4, SO ACT NOW!! Checks should be made out to ESK and returned to your homeroom teacher. Please support art in your school.

Sustainability News

In the Garden
Last week, Third Grade students in Mr. Tannhauser's garden class had the opportunity to plant wheat! How fun!

Rake Don't Blow
Leaf blowers can pump out pollution in volumes disproportionate to their size. In one year's time, that little 2-stroke leaf blower engine you hear buzzing up the street pumps out as much smog-forming pollution as many cars, according to the California Air Resources Board, the state's air quality agency. Lawn and garden equipment made before 1997 is responsible for as much as 5% of ozone-forming pollution, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Look for electric models, or those approved by the California Air Resources Board, since California has standards that exceed those in other states. When you do use lawn equipment, follow these EPA tips to reduce air pollution:
  • Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for maintenance, and perform routine tune-ups.
  • Change the oil and clean or replace air filters regularly, and use the recommended fuel-oil mixture for two-stroke engines.
  • For lawn mowers, keep blades sharp and clean the underside of the mower deck.
  • Winterize your equipment each fall.
But the cleanest way to clear leaves and storm debris is still to get your hands on a rake
