Need to play your chimes 4-in-hand? Don't want them to "clink" as you stack and ring?

Wrap one of the handles with non-stick bandage wrap (sticks to itself but not to you or the chime!) available on most first aid aisles! Target's Up & Up brand even makes it in
concert black!

For most, November is a time to stop for a moment and give thanks. Being a handbell musician offers so many reasons to be thankful! Take a few minutes to reflect on what you are thankful for in handbells and share those thoughts with your fellow ringers. We really do have a remarkable instrument that offers very special musical and relational moments for us.

Happy Thanksgiving from your Area 12 Board!
Message from the Chair - Michle Sharik

Hi there, Area 12!

Guess what? It's that time of year again! The time when we all are busy preparing for the winter holidays. In the midst of all this holiday madness, let's not forget to take a step back and remember what it is that we love about handbells.

For some of us, it's about glorifying God; for others, it's about sharing fun fellowship time with our friends; and for others, it's all about making music.

Whatever your reason for loving handbells is, your Area 12 board is here for you! Let your regional coordinators know if they can do anything to help you, such as helping you find subs, extra bells, instruction in things such as bell trees, etc. Whatever you need, don't be afraid to ask!

And remember to check the calendar to see if there are any exciting handbell happenings in your region.

Best wishes as we gear up for the holidays!

Our new website is continuing to take shape, thanks to the hard work of our former webmaster, P.L. Grove and our current webmaster, Jen Hayes! This month we want to get
YOU involved in making it a dynamic and useful tool!

Our Links page features a listing of Area 12 member groups with hotlinks to their websites. This is a great tool for keeping up with what's happening near you or for considering when planning a trip! But, we need YOUR group's information to add to the list! So, if you are in an AREA 12 member group which has its own website with its information and activities, please send info to Jen at [email protected] to have it listed!

Aloha, all!

I'm very excited that Tim Waugh is coming here in a few short weeks! It's not too late to sign up for our Aloha Ring workshop on Saturday, November 15. Just click here or the blue link below to get to the registration information and forms!

Please spread the word to those who might not be "in the know." I have been on the task of finding handbell groups here in Hawaii and have even resorted to calling churches/schools to see if they have bells! I have found a couple sets which are coming out of closets shortly! Yes, that is great news! And I am here to help!

Hello, Handbell Musicians!

One hundred handbell musicians participated in the Seventh Annual Handbell Festival in Redding! Our guest directors Ellie Hodder and Larry Sue were awesome and so patient and encouraging!

Thanks, also, to our great class teachers, Lois Nichols, Mary Balkow, Ellie Hodder, Shosh Meyer, and Dr. Dwayne Corbin!

And the 185 people who came to enjoy our closing concert!

Be sure to send me your holiday concert information and we will get the word out to help boost YOUR concert attendance!

Rincerely,

Hello SoCal Ringers !

Hope your fall is off to a great start! I love that it is finally starting to cool down! Before you know it, we will be performing our Christmas music and looking ahead to Easter and Spring concerts!

Speaking of spring - Plan to attend the 2015 SoCal Spring Ring on April 25! Margi Zearley, from Tucson, AZ, will be our guest clinician and we have some great music picked out!  This year, in addition to the Massed Ringing, is the opportunity to take some great classes and participate in Bronze Vision (advanced ringing). Registration information will be coming soon, but for those who would like to start working on and using the music, here is the repertoire list:

Massed Ringing:

Celebration, by Fred Gramann, MLC201397

Amazing Grace, by Sandra Eithun, MRRBL5056

Calypso on He Leadeth Me, by Tammy Waldrop, MHP2609

Come Christians Join to Sing, by Susan Geschke, MCGB500

Bronze Choir:

Let It Go, by Kevin McChesney, MJH59511

What a Friend We Have in Jesus, by William Gross, MFLHB650

We will be offering a class to learn and perform the percussion parts for Calypso on He Leadeth Me, so if you have members of your choir that are interested in playing percussion, we would love to have as many as possible!

Looking forward to seeing all of you there!

LA Metro - Scott Leggett, Regional Coordinator

Hi, LA Metro!

I love the fall season for many reasons, but one for sure is how during this time of year so many of our activities are focused on preparing for upcoming events.  We are planning for Christmas and the holidays both musically and otherwise, our bell groups are in full swing (so to speak!) learning new repertoire, getting new members up to speed, and making decisions and plans for the ringing year.

LA Metro had a hugely successful Fall Ringers Workshop last month! I want to thank our hosts at Lake Avenue Church, teachers Linda Krantz and Jeanette McMahon, and our clinician Ramona Miller. We all had a fun and educational time!

The planning for our Spring Ring, May 2, is underway! We are tentatively planning to offer a bronze level ringing experience as well a director's track for newer directors. If you have any suggestions or thoughts about this, please let me know.

Lastly, I encourage you to share your performance schedules so they can be published on the web site and our Facebook page. This helps you build your audience and gives interested bell enthusiasts a chance to support bell ringing in the area.

Hello CenCal Folks!

Last month I was fortunate to be able to attend the Redding Handbell Festival. Nancy Schmitt certainly coordinates a wonderful event! Great music, 100 enthusiastic ringers, ear training, hand drums, rhythm techniques, solo choirs, and a room full of really nice folks. It's well worth the drive!

How is your holiday music coming together? For me, the tough sections are beginning to sound like more melodic phrases. I have a couple passages of chimes needing to be handled 4-in-hand. I'm getting better at keeping those clanging handles quiet, but sometimes they still shift position.

And I'm looking forward to many great concerts coming up. Let me know about yours and I'll get them on our calendar!
