We have exciting news for you! Area 12 is unveiling its BRAND NEW WEBSITE! Our outgoing webmaster, P.L. Grove, and incoming webmaster, Jen Hayes, have been working tirelessly to bring this to you this month! (Well, OK, they are probably tired now!) Enjoy!

Message from the Chair - Michle Sharik

Hi there, Area 12!
By now, our handbell programs are in full swing, but it's no time to rest on our laurels. There are fall workshops to attend! Not only will ringers learn valuable skills, but directors will too. Check out the NEW calendar for workshop opportunities in your region.
It's also time to look forward to the fall & winter holiday season. Thanksgiving, Samhain, All Saints Day, Advent, Hannukah, Christmas - they're just around the corner! If your group is doing anything special for the holidays, be it a concert or any type of performance, let your regional coordinator know. People travel a lot during the holidays and like to hear bells, so let's help them find YOU!
I'd like to welcome Jen Hayes to your Board as your new webmaster! Our previous webmaster (and previous Communications Director, and previous Chair), P.L. Grove, is off to begin her new adventure as President-Elect of our national organization, the Handbell Musicians of America. Please join me in thanking her for all her years of service and wishing her all the best!
I'd also like to welcome Sandi Walker-Tansley who will be serving as our Membership Director. She will be working with your Regional Coordinators and Communications team to shepherd new members and assist current members. As we seek to serve our membership more directly, we have asked Alison Pruett, formerly our Las Vegas Liaison, to serve as a Regional Coordinator for all of Southern Nevada, reaching out to those outside the Las Vegas area. Barb Walsh will continue to shepherd the Northern Nevada region. And finally, it is with great sadness that I report the passing of Norma Rose. Norma coordinated Area 12's silent auction for many years, always with a smile on her face and a friendly word for whoever stopped by her table. In her memory, Area 12 will donate the proceeds from the 2014 Shake, Rattle, and Ring conference to the Handbell Musicians of America Heritage Fund.
All my best,
Chair

NEW WEBSITE! - Jen Hayes, Webmaster
|

Hello Area 12!
I'm your new webmaster, Jen, and I'd like to introduce you to the updated Area 12 website. You've had great suggestions on how to make your Area website work better for you, and we've made some improvements I think you'll find helpful:
Do you or your ensemble have a concert coming up? The site's new homepage features a list of upcoming events, and there are both main and regional calendars so you can easily find the events closest to you. If you do have a concert or performance coming up, be sure to let me or your Regional Coordinator know the date, time, and location, and we will add it to the calendar. Any performance incorporating handbells is invited to include their information on our site, regardless of current Handbell Musicians of America membership status.
If you or your group does have a membership, we're excited to introduce a directory. This is a great resource for handbell musicians who've just moved to the area or who want a single place to learn more about handbell artists in all of Area 12. Get in touch with your Regional Coordinator if you would like to be added to the list. If you're not a member and would like to be listed, well, today is the perfect day to join! You can find more information on the Handbell Musicians of America website.
You've also asked us for a better way to advertise for directors and ringers wanted. We listened and now you can find links to these listings featured prominently on the homepage. To list your wanted ad, just send an email to me at webmaster.area12@handbellmusicians.org with your ad and we will post your listing for 30 days. Be sure to check back often to see if there's a ringing or directing opportunity for you! We've also implemented a new page to advertise free music or equipment your group is looking to donate to another group in need, rather than letting it gather dust in a storeroom.
Some more about me for the curious: I started ringing in 1996 and I've been a member of Bell Appeal in San Francisco since I moved to the Bay Area six years ago. I've also performed with Bay Bells and the SFSU Handbell Ensemble, and have toured Italy with Campanae Mundi. My day job is with a branding and design company in the wine industry, but I spend many of my off-hours arranging pop music for a mix of handbells and other instruments.
If you have any questions about the new site, or you just want to say hello, you know where to reach me!

Hello, all!
There is so much renewed excitement in Area 12! Let me highlight a few things, but read ALL the other articles for even MORE details about the new and exciting opportunities!
Our recent Board meeting was a weekend of hard, but fun work. We regrouped and reviewed, passed existing torches and lit new ones, filled voids, planned and organized, and even dreamed about our future, brainstorming wonderful ideas to share with you using new technology and old traditions. The board is filled with new excitement about working together to continue promoting our art!
I can't give away all our surprises right now, but I can tell you there are opportunities now and coming up for YOU to get excited too! To play with new toys (check out that new website!), have fun (check out that new calendar!), get involved (new contest to be announced in November!), and make a difference right where you are. We have more people on the board and more resources than ever to realize our dreams. Now we just need YOU. What do you need and how will you help?

Fall has finally arrived, although it still feels like summer around here! I hope your fall ringing seasons are starting off in fun and exciting ways.
I just returned from our Area 12 board meeting and I am very excited about working with such a dedicated and enthusiastic group of people! Our Fall Ringers' Workshop is right around the corner on Saturday, October 4, and, if you see this before then, it's not too late to come! Registration information is on our new website. No preparation is needed and we will have music for you to purchase there that day. If you plan to come, please email me right away!
Next, we are finalizing plans for the LA Metro Spring Ring. Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 4, and get ready for the amazing Christine Anderson to share her magic with us! Check the website and stay tuned for new information as it is released!
Lastly, remember to have your concerts and events listed on our web page! Our new Area 12 website will make this very easy, but we need you to send us your information so we can list it! There is a lot of ringing going in the LA Metro regional, so let's share it!

Hello SoCal Ringers!
I am sure by now all of you have settled into the fall rehearsal schedule and are already busy preparing for Christmas!
For our faith based groups, consider ringing with hymns and songs as a way to enhance your worship service. Many times I hear complaints about how much set up is required to just play one or two pieces in the service. Take advantage of your hard work and play along with hymns, or suggest doing a call to prayer on bells, or playing along with the doxology or postlude. There are many ways to incorporate bells into worship!
Did you know there are memberships available for your ringers? YES! How about offering a sub-membership (now FREE for college students in a Guild member group!)
Go to www.handbellmusicians.org for all the details!
Spring Ring dates and location have been set, so MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW for April 24-25, 2015 at Promise Lutheran Church in Murrieta. This year Margie Zearley will conduct the massed ringing and Bronze Vision choir and there will be great classes offered. More information will be coming soon!
Happy fall and happy ringing!

Hello, Southern Nevada!
I am Alison Pruett, the new Southern Nevada Regional Coordinator! I have been ringing in churches and community groups for 25 years and I currently direct an ensemble at St. Anthony of Padua Church and play with Harmony Handbells in Las Vegas. I'm very excited to start holding workshops and bring back the Twelfth Night Handbell Festival in 2016. If you have ideas or thoughts on what you would like to see, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm always looking for suggestions or, more importantly, help to bring these handbell events to fruition. Let's get excited together!
