By Popular Demand...
Velocity Toffee
is back to delight your tastebuds!
Apparently, last year, some people didn't hear about toffee until it was too late, so this year Velocity is taking out an ad.
There are a limited number of cans available, so act now to make sure you get your holiday toffee ON!
Velocity's annual fundraiser is traditional English toffee homemade from butter, sugar, walnuts and Guittard semisweet chocolate. The toffee comes vacuum sealed in a 1 lb. pop-top can with a resealable lid for the online price of $22.50 per can (note that after ten years we finally had to raise the price to cover increasing materials costs). The can makes a perfect holiday stocking stuffer or gift for "hard-to-buy-for" relatives or friends. If you've never tried it, you simply must!
So hurry on over to
www.velocitybells.org
and place your order before it's all gone. All online orders are secure through the use of PayPal, and since Velocity is a 501c3 non-profit organiza-tion, a full $15 of your toffee purchase is tax deductible.
Say...since there's a tax benefit, why not get two cans? Or maybe, let's see... one for Aunt Louise, one for cousin Jeff, one for me, my sister, two more for me...

Jingle bells, church bells, sleigh bells, dinner bells, tower bells, Salvation Army bells! Though we love our bells year-round, this is the season everyone else is reveling in bells! Get out to a handbell concert this month and take some friends to experience what you already love. Maybe the "bell bug" will bite them too! |
Message from the Chair - Michle Sharik |
Hi there, Area 12!
The holiday season is upon us! Many of us are gearing up for all sorts of services and concerts, not to mention planning our own personal and family activities. It sure can seem overwhelming sometimes, can't it?
Instead of stressing out, why not take some time out, relax and go see a concert or two? There are so many holiday concerts coming up - just take a look at our calendar below! There are concerts by small groups, soloists, and full groups, all of whom would love to see your smiling faces at their shows.
In addition to their own holiday planning, members of your board are working hard to prepare the 2014 Area Festival/Conference, which will be held this June in San Luis Obispo. This will be an event like no other, so be sure to be there. Look for updates below from our Conference Chair (and Past Chair) Rima Greer. Registration will be available in January!
And please don't forget to consider volunteering as a board member yourself! We will have a special election very soon for a new Chair Elect (a 6 year commitment), plus we have openings for Events Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, and Southern California Regional Coordinator. Please contact me if you are interested or want more information!
Have a great holiday season!
Michle Sharik

Reminder: Call for Nominations for Special Election
|
Nominations remain open for a special election to fill the position of chair-elect.
Because of a recent Board vacancy, the term of office for the next Chair-Elect will begin immediately upon election and will go through summer of 2020, making it a 6-1/2 instead of the normal 6-year term (approximately).
Candidates must be voting members of the Handbell Musicians of America, must reside within Area 12, and must consent to their nomination. More information on the position can be found in the Area 12 Bylaws and Rules of Procedure, which are posted on the Area 12 website.
Nominations will be taken through December 15th or until at least two qualified candidates have been found. The Board hopes to complete the special election early next year, so if you know of someone you think would be great in this position (or if you, yourself have considered running), please let us know right away.
(Don't forget that the regular election for secretary and treasurer - both of which are two-year terms - will be held next year, so if the chair-elect position is not for you, there are still other ways to serve Area 12.)
The nominating committee for this special election is Rima Greer, Barbara Meinke and P.L. Grove. Note that your Past Chair, Rima Greer, has appointed P.L. to preside over the committee for this special election, so please send inquiries and nomination suggestions to P.L. at [email protected].
Spread the word that we need volunteers to help Area 12 continue its history of great handbell education and events!

Dear Handbell Musicians,
The Christmas season is a wonderful time to involve children, visiting grandchildren, and non-ringers in your Christmas Eve services. Preschool children can ring the multi-colored bell sets as they do a processional to the front of the church. Youth in second grade through eighth grade who normally do not play a musical instrument or read music can ring Christmas carols using regular handbells by reading the letters from a chart. To make things special, let the youth wear tie-dyed gloves and tie colorful ribbons on the bell handles. They, too, could do a processional of random ringing to the front of the church and then play a couple of Christmas carols from the chart. Youth are extremely busy any time of the year, and especially during December, but since you only need two rehearsals, it will be easier to get families to say yes.
Don't forget to check the calendar for Christmas concerts near you. Please send me your workshop, festival, or concert information so we can post it in the e-news. I wish you all a Merry Ringing Christmas.
Ringcerely,
NorCal Regional Coordinator

Hello, Bay Area Ringers!
The holidays are usually the busiest for handbell ringers. I encourage you to support each other this season by attending each other's concerts! It's always satisfying to see the hard work and rehearsals pay off when the performing venues are filled with an appreciative audience, and no one appreciates handbell ringing more than handbell ringers! So this holiday season, let's give the gift of gratitude for handbell ringers by supporting each other. Check out the concert calendar and enjoy!
Happy holidays and happy ringing!

December Greetings,
LAMetro Ringers and Directors!
Well, the Holiday Season is here! I'm sure you're as busy as everyone else, plus you have HANDBELL PERFORMANCES too! I know everyone is asking for your precious time, so I'm going to get in there while I can. I need your help. I have had several inquiries about where to hear handbell music this holiday season. I'd like to be able to send these potential audience members your way! Please send me your concert dates so I can share them with those interested. This is not just for "bells only" performances, but also for anytime your handbell choir will play more than one piece, even as part of a larger concert, or worship service.

Hello CenCal Folks!
There is lots of beautiful bell music this time of year! I just finished the November ringing season with one group, and I am heading directly into the December ringing season with another group. We have had discussions of simple lighting, costuming, props, a few spoken lines, and a bit of stage-fright for me!
When are your groups playing? Church services? Community events?Let me know. There's still time to post them on the website so more people can enjoy your beautiful music.

As we are going into our busy season, really think about the holidays and what they mean to you. And enjoy all the beautiful music filling the air during the holidays. We had a great workshop in October with clinician, Tim Waugh!
There were 33 ringers And we also had a director's workshop! We relish the opportunity to have Tim come here to Hawaii. We hope in the coming years we can build up our area and continue to host superb clinicians from the mainland.

Area 12 Bell Loan Program
Teachers, would you like the use of a 3-octave set of handbells or handchimes to add interest and a new dimension to your music class? Area 12 encourages schools and other educa-tional institutions, both public and private, to develop educational pro-grams using handbells and handchimes. To support the development of such pro-grams, Area 12 has two sets of 3-octaves of handbells and three sets of 3-octaves of handchimes for loan. Deadlines for applications are 5/31 for the Fall Semester and 10/30 for the Spring Semester. To learn more about the respon-sibilities and procedures for participating in this pro-gram, click here.
