This is the 'Art Fair' Market
This week's Dane County Farmers' Market (DCFM) moves two blocks south, to Wilson Street at Martin Luther King Blvd. to accommodate Art Fair on the Square. The move results in a smaller market, around 50 vendors rather than 180, yet offers a full selection of ingredients, including bakery goods, meats, fruits and vegetables, and cheese.
EBT Services will be available this Saturday. Look for the booth on Wilson Street. Contact Lexa Dundore at lexad@cacscw.org or call (608) 246-4730, ext. 224 for more information.
The market returns to the Capitol Square the following Saturday, July 20.
At this week's market we'll see expanded availability of several products that made their seasonal debut at last Wednesday's DCFM.
 | Onions from Neng and Russ Yang. --Photo by Natalie Porter | Sweet cherries are expected from Healthy Ridge Farm. We saw some beautiful raspberries from Yang's Produce. Kissed by the Sun brought the first blueberries of the season to last Wednesday's market. While Kissed is not scheduled to appear at this week's market, other vendors may have blueberries.
We'll see early season sweet corn from Heck's Market and perhaps a few other vendors. Gary Heck says the supply will be decent this year and will become more plentiful in the next few weeks.
The variety and quantity of beans continues to increase, as does summer squash, cucumbers, carrots, zucchini, and greens.
As is always the case, there is plenty of parking in municipal and private ramps, and on the street.
Bring a cooler to store your market purchases. Plan to visit the art fair taking place right up the street. Enjoy a meal at one of the many area restaurants. Go to the In Addition... section of this newsletter for information about other events going on in the area.
Whatever you decide to do, this Saturday's market promises to be in good company when it comes to a great time to spend a little time in downtown Madison.
See you at market! Bill Lubing bill@dcfm.org

Back on the Square Next Week; Paddle and Portage Event Scheduled; Maxwell Street Days on State Street Just a reminder that the DCFM will return to the Capitol Square next week for the July 20 market. That is the day of the Isthmus Paddle and Portage event. There may be brief delays on area streets as the paddlers portage from Lake Mendota to Lake Monona. If you're interested in a little window shopping, check out the Maxwell Street Days, taking place Saturday on State Street. It's always a fun addition to the Dane County Farmers' Market. There will be normal DCFM operation during the event, with no vendor, location, hours, or other changes because of Paddle and Portage and Maxwell Street Days. Eat well by eating local.
