Conversational Intelligence

Conversations are the source of energy that have the power to release transformational thoughts - (products and goods) into the world.  Conversations are the golden threads that enable us to move forward and trust others.  It is through conversation that we communicate and ultimately, connect. Conversation is integral to the health and productivity of a company culture.

We here at PCI have always spoken to the importance of conversation (skills) as a means to help place the other person at ease while learning information, sharing information and advancing critical business relationships.  I am delighted to recommend Judith Glaser's new book, Conversational Intelligence

How to Stand Apart
Protocol Tip of the Month

Shaking hands before a negotiation increases the chances of a positive outcome.

We here at PCI have always advocated that he act of handshaking signals that you are a man/woman well-met.

Corroboration:  Now there is evidence - physiological proof, that the mere act of shaking hands, as well as seemingly otherwise innocuous token actions, is not only appropriate however, according to Glaser, shaking hands neurologically actually raises the level of trust.

When we reach out to shake hands, oxytocin is released.  Oxytocin release is like a chemical cocktail in the brain that shifts our perception of people and triggers the brain to react, 'this is a friend, not a foe.'  It removes uncertainty to the extent where we may say to ourselves, "he/she is not too bad after all" ... and we may not even know why we think this, only that we do. It may take a few times before this feeling fully locks in however each handshake improves trust levels.

How to Stand Apart
Thought of the Month
In the face of adversity, Humor is notably effective toward diffusing a potentially volatile situation.  A mere touch of humor rests our brain, allowing us to focus on more constructive activity. Humor literally quells the amygdala and allows the prefrontal cortex to refocus on the situation in a constructive way.

In Conclusion
The words we use and the conversations we have hold the power to change the brain. Healthy conversations are critical to healthy relationships. Being a master of Conversational Intelligence will help advance trust, ideas, partnerships and commerce.

Consider the question: what impact are my words having on others? We need to be aware of our state of mind and know that being in a positive state of mind is critical to developing healthy, productive Conversational Intelligence and actually change the future and co-create new realities.

We need to become masters at articulating our words (of intention) and more aware of the impact our exchanges have on others. When aligned, the trust quotient is elevated, connections are ignited, relationships advance.

I remain
