Dear Katchkie Farm CSA Members,
This past Saturday we escaped the mean weather in Brooklyn for the safe haven of the farm for our annual Fall Harvest Day with The Sylvia Center. Squinting while driving through the spitting rain on the Taconic, we noticed quietly changing leaves among the still-lush highway greenery, finding Katchkie Farm to be overcast but festive. Once there, we pressed cider, made fire-roasted pizza, and convinced Farmer Bob to take us on a tractor-driven hayride. We even had a hilarious visit with the farm animals: a CSA member picked up a chicken just as she was laying a blue egg!

The farm is in so much transition this time of year. We're growing humble winter vegetables like celery root, beets, and winter squash, while poblano peppers and even a few tomatoes cling vibrantly to their vines. Our sunflowers sag drowsily, seemingly defeated by the sight of nearby luxuriant collards and kale. Likewise, we're soaking up as much time outdoors as we can during the day, but hunkering down at night to spend some quality time with our stove. Now is the time to embrace all the limbo!
