Dear Katchkie Farm CSA Members,

In our minds, the onset of fall means much more than the end of tomato season and the beginning of heartier vegetables like squash and parsnips. While we may not entirely be there yet, the cooler weather has a significant impact on the way that we farm at Katchkie; the lower temperature and humidity reduces the rates and activity of insect pests, and the shorter day length causes many crops to go into a different stage of growth. In addition, this is the time of year that we start to plan ahead and begin to set aside compost and green manure to ensure we have the proper nutrients for next season.

While summer vegetables like tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers might hang around for a couple more weeks, we're really excited for our fall crops. Expect some interesting vegetables like parsley root and romaneso coming down the line in a few weeks!
