Hello Katchkie Farm CSA Members,
I had the privilege of meeting with an array of farmers this week to discuss the future of farming and sustainability. The overarching theme was how collaboration within the farming community and the growing popularity of CSA's is making small-scale family farming a viable career. I'm sorry if this seems sounds redundant, but I really want to convey how incredible it is that YOU chose to participate in a CSA.
To put it in perspective, during planting season, many farmers are working approximately 80 hours per week. Sometimes, even with careful planning and vigilance, crops fail, droughts occur, tomato blight destroys your entire crop, and financial crisis can consume a farmer in one fell swoop. The risk factor is terrifying for many farmers but, thanks to conversations I had with farmers from Long Island, on top of insightful conversations with Farmer Bob, gave me hope for a real change in our food system and the future of small farms.
Essentially, thank you. Thank you for supporting Katchkie Farm and ensuring the future for small farms throughout New York and nationally. You are voting with your dollar.
Also, keep a look out. Katchkie Farm product give-away take two will be occurring during the next couple weeks!

CSA News
A nice pair of black suede gloves were found from a visitor on Katchkie Farm visit day. If are missing black suede gloves, please let me know and we will make sure we get those back to you!
Also, we are thinking about starting a winter CSA for the upcoming year. It would be a monthly delivery or pick up spanning from December until June. It is not set in stone, but we wanted to gauge interest on the subject. If you would be interested in participating in the Katchkie Farm Winter CSA, please email me at amy.black@katchkiefarm.com.
