Clergy Conference: October 11-13

The clergy of the diocese will gather for a retreat at St. Francis Retreat House in Easton from October 11 at 4 pm until October 13 at 1 pm.
The Rev. Dr. Fredrick W. Schmidt, Jr. will lead the retreat. Schmidt holds the Rueben P. Job Chair in Spiritual Formation and directs the Rueben P. Job Institute for Spiritual Formation at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois.

Diocesan Investment Trust New Procedures
|
Deacon Charlie Barebo, diocesan treasurer, has written to update diocesan leaders on new Diocesan Investment Trust procedures. "The Trustees are working hard to make our DIT the most user friendly product responsibly conceivable," writes Barebo. "We have seen turn-around time on withdrawal requests cut to a few days, deposits made directly to the custodian, and we have streamlined the process to establish new trust accounts."

Convention Reminders and Updates
- Convention begins at 9 am on Friday, October 2 and concludes at noon on Saturday, October 3.
- Reservations for the nights of October 1 and 2 are available at the Best Western Lehigh Valley Hotel and Conference Center for a group rate of $99/night through September 15. The center does not have an elevator, so please request a first floor room if you do not wish to climb stairs. To make reservations, please call the hotel at 610-866-5800.
Pre-Convention Hearings
All diocesan convention delegates, clergy and lay, are encouraged to attend one of three pre-convention hearings scheduled around the diocese. The resolutions and the 2016 budget will be reviewed, and participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the sponsors of the resolutions.
Volunteer Opportunities
Convention requires the help of non-delegate volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to ensure the success of this important diocesan event, meet new people from across the diocese, see and experience convention behind-the-scenes and have fun! Learn more on the website.
Remembering Bishop Dyer
Friday evening's Convention Eucharist and dinner will include opportunities to honor and remember the Rt. Rev. Mark Dyer, bishop of the Diocese of Bethlehem from 1982-1995, who died in November 2014.

United Thank Offering
|
The United Thank Offering (UTO) is both a way of nurturing the habit of giving daily thanks and a means of funding outreach grants that support the mission of the church. Many parishes in the Diocese of Bethlehem have UTO coordinators who help with planning twice-yearly ingatherings. If you would like help identifying a UTO coordinator in your congregation or would like more information about the United Thanks Offering please email Cathy Bailey, diocesan UTO coordinator.

 The Rev. Amy Spagna, curate at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bethlehem, has accepted a call to serve as assistant to the rector at Christ Church in Westerly, Rhode Island, beginning in mid-September. Her ministry in Bethlehem will conclude on August 30.

Becoming the Story We Tell: September 9-10
The Associated Parishes for Liturgy and Mission (APLM) will hold its regional conference at Church of the Holy Spirit in Lebanon, New Jersey on September 9-10. Participants will leave with a plan for 14-weeks of worship and small group programs for Lent, the Triduum, and Easter. Learn more.
