There are few investments which can have as big an impact on your student and our school as a donation to the WHS Foundation. 100% of your donation will go towards class size reduction.
3 Days to Go.......
* Because of your generosity, we have been able to raise $90,000 for the Class Size Reduction campaign. The Administration will now be able to retain TWO part-time teachers for the 2016-17 school year.
* If SEVEN additional families per homeroom gave $125, the Administration will be able to hire an additional THREE part-time teachers for next year.
* The part-time teachers who are retained and/or hired are experienced teachers who have either retired and/or no longer want to work full-time. They are able to immediately make an impact in the classroom and in class size reduction in core curriculum classes.
Class sizes do matter. Research indicates:
* Increasing class sizes can have a detrimental effect on student behavior, resulting in more classroom disruptions, distractions and teacher interruptions;
* "With smaller class sizes, students and teachers can get to know one another and the teacher can readily identify the strengths and weaknesses of each student. This leaves ample time for the teacher and student to work together on ways to improve those weaknesses. This gives students the confidence to continue their education and not feel abandoned in an overcrowded and boisterous atmosphere where learning takes a back seat to bringing the class under control."; and,
* Increased student engagement not only benefits an individual student, but can positively impact the mood of the classroom to one where it is "cool" to interact, listen and respond to group discussions and teacher questions.
If you are unsure as to whether or not you've contributed to the Class Size Reduction Campaign, please click here to see the list of families who have contributed to the "Make a Difference" Campaign.

If you missed the iPad APP SHOWCASE, you're in luck!
Parents who attended the iPad APP Showcase on March 22 were thrilled to learn about how the iPad is helping students visualize difficult concepts and helping teachers engage and interact with students. From apps which help math students see how changing coordinates on a graph can impact the results to apps which help teachers identify concepts needing more clarification, the iPad in the classroom has already had a positive impact by providing more interactive assignments and enhancing the learning environment.
