Can a part-time teacher really reduce class size?
A few common questions from parents are as follows: 1) how does the Administration get the money to hire part-time teachers; 2) who does the Administration hire; and 3) how can one part-time teacher reduce class sizes?
- The Foundation raises the money to hire teachers and writes a check at the end of the fiscal year (June 30, 2016) to Walton High School.
- The administration at Walton hires the teachers based on the needs of the school and the amount of money raised through contributions.
- Adding a part-time teacher who teaches 4 sections of a subject will reduce class sizes across the board in that area.
- The part-time teachers teach 4 sections and are usually retired, experienced and highly-regarded Cobb County teachers who no longer want to work full-time.
- Also, using the part-time teachers allows the Administration to use their allotment from the county in other departments which can keep class sizes smaller.
