Career Exploration through Naviance Family Connection
Part 4 in a series of "Naviance Tips for Parents"
After students take one or more of the interest and ability assessments on the Naviance portal, they can start exploring possible career options through their Family Connection account. Under the Careers Tab, students can choose to either search by a key word, a career cluster or pathway, or by their Holland Code Career Model Code (as determined through the Career Interest Profiler Assessment found under the About Me tab). Resources include videos of professionals in the field of study, detailed job descriptions with typical tasks and common activities, lists of important skills, abilities, and knowledge areas necessary for that career, and wage information by state.
To search careers by cluster or pathways, students can explore credentials necessary for each field, related careers and majors, and a high school plan of study for the pathway. Students can take the Cluster Founder assessment in this section to help them focus on the pathways most appealing to them. Remind your student to save their career choices under the tab "My Careers" and their cluster choices under the tab "My Saved Career Clusters and Pathways" for future reference.
Making an informed decision on the career pathway a student wants to pursue has a direct impact on their ultimate success and connects their future goals with their coursework at Walton. Encourage your student to spend some time in the Naviance Family Connection Career tab soon. Questions or comments?
