Naviance's College and Career Readiness Program connects Learning with LIFE!
A lot of students today have questions about their future, and they don't see a link between what they are doing in the classroom and what they hope to do in the future. Naviance College and Career Readiness Platform connects Learning and Life. It puts each student on a personalized path to future success by helping them discover their individual strengths and talents and to explore career options based on their results. Then, it gives the students tools to search for college programs, based on their interests, determining which courses they need to take to reach their goals and identify areas for improvement.
Once students are ready, Naviance makes it easy for them to apply to colleges, look for scholarships and track their admission status.
In short, Naviance offers students a better understanding of what they want to be, and the tools to plan how to get there. This program is intended to engage and support the student in applying an effective decision-making process for choosing a career, a major, a college and even which courses they should take at Walton. As parents, we can play a big support role in guiding our student through this process. The more the parent understands the resources and program design, the more likely the parent is able to be a helpful partner by encouraging their student to spend the time and thoughtful effort to discover and understand their talents and interests and connect these talents and interests to rewarding career options. By researching the career options more deeply, the student defines potential career goals and develops an academic strategy for achieving these goals.
Students can take three assessments through the Family Connection Platform. Today, we will discuss the Career Interest Profiler, a 108 question assessment based on the Holland Interest Codes which measures six traits: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. It is a system to classify jobs into job categories, interest clusters or work personality environments. Family Connection uses the results of the assessment and suggests 20-40 top careers that fit the test taker's interests. From there, the student can explore the suggested career with general information, videos, tasks and aptitudes required, and even research salary information broken down by state. Students can only take this assessment once through Family Connection so encourage them to carve out 20 or 30 minutes so they can take the time to give thoughtful answers and get the best results! Find the CIP under the Careers Tab in the "What Are My Interests?" section. Questions/comments? Go to whsnaviance@gmail.com.
