Come To Open House And See How The iPads Will Be Used In The Classroom

For the past two years, our administration has been working with other schools around the country to learn how technology can be used to aid classroom instruction. After exhaustive research and the completion of a parent/student survey, it was determined that the iPad was the best tool to promote interactive learning for our students.  The teachers (who have already received and been trained on their iPads) are excited to demonstrate a few of their selected apps during Open House on August 19th.

Because of your generosity, we have been able to purchase 25 iPads, which helped complete the Social Studies, Mathematics,World Language and Science Departments.  We still need your support to purchase another 55 iPads for the teachers in the English, Fine Arts, Special Education and PE departments.

All proceeds for this campaign will be immediately used to purchase iPads because the sooner our teachers receive their iPads, the sooner they will be able to join their Walton colleagues in the weekly training sessions offered by Apple, the Cobb County Educational Technologist and fellow teachers.

To view some of the apps our teachers will be using by department/subject, please follow this link.  More apps will be added as teachers are trained and working with their iPads in the classrooms.  For every iPad purchased, another 132 students will benefit from the interactive applications which successfully reinforce classroom instruction.

We need EVERY Walton family to "Say 'YES' To An iPad In Every Classroom" at Walton with a $30.00 donation! Please click here to "Give Our Students A Strong Foundation."

The Foundation and the Walton Art Department Launch a T-Shirt Design Contest this week.

The profits from the sale of the winning t-shirts will be used to fund the framing of Walton students' artwork which will be displayed around the school. Additionally, the Foundation hopes to raise enough funds to create a scholarship that will be awarded in the spring.  More details regarding the scholarship will be announced in January, 2016.  In the meantime, "get your creative juices flowing" and enter the contest for a chance to win a gift card and see your design on the backs of your fellow Walton classmates!

The "Mad for the iPad" Homeroom Contest Kicked Off on Monday, 8/17.

The WHSF will be having a grade-level "Mad for the iPad" contest to help support the "Say 'YES!' To An iPad In Every Classroom" campaign. If each homeroom has at least 20 students contribute to the campaign (by donating $30 to the iPad campaign and/or purchasing a Basic or Complete Family Sponsorship), then that classroom will raise enough money to purchase one iPad.

With your support, not only will we reach our goal of supplying an iPad in every classroom, but we will also be earning access to corporate grants for education that are only available if we have 100% participation from the Walton community.

The homeroom teacher with the highest rate of class participation in each respective grade-level will receive a $100 iTunes gift card (which has been generously donated).  In addition, the students will receive a special treat from the Foundation, such as a light breakfast (which will also be donated).

Please ask your student(s) if he/she received the WHS Sponsorship Form in homeroom.
If you have not yet had an opportunity to participate in the campaign, please return your completed form no later than Friday, August 21.
Thank you for your generosity and support!
