TCYP Brief

LGT Fall Application Deadline August 21st

It's back! One of the Chamber's core leadership development programs is now accepting applications for the Fall semester. Leadership Grand Traverse is an engaging, all-in, hands-on program focusing on local leadership and community betterment. Its focus is to give local leaders and those interested in contributing to the community the resources and knowledge they need to effectively fill decision-making roles in the area. Participants are entrenched in the inner workings of assets and topics including natural resources, parks and recreation, transportation, agriculture, local economy, local arts, and health and human services.  The benefit LGT provides its participants is unrivaled in Northern Michigan, but also requires a great deal of hard work and commitment from its members that is non-negotiable. In order to ensure graduation from the program, all events must be attended and contributed to. Here is the schedule for Fall 2015:

With the exception of opening and closing retreats, times for day sessions are 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Local Board Member Opportunity

The Salvation Army is seeking help from the YPs to fill vacancies on its Advisory Board. They are in need of energetic and passionate young professionals who have made community service a priority in their lives.

The Advisory Board currently has five members that meet at noon on the third Wednesday of each month. The overall time commitment would vary but is typical to be between one and three hours per month depending on the event schedule and meeting duration.

The Salvation Army has been serving communities worldwide for 150 years, and has had a strong positive presence in Traverse City for 121 years. Locally they have provided 56,216 services to 19,033 individuals and families through the generous support and help from the community members.

For more information contact the Salvation Army's Ruth Blick with questions.

Non-perishable Food Donations

The YP Committee has made it a point this year to bring in non-perishable food items as well as make financial donations at every meeting. The proceeds of this mission are then passed on to the Father Fred Foundation. In the first five months of 2015, the committee has donated an equivalent of 421 servings equaling 140 meals. THANK YOU to all who have donated and contributed to this cause. For more information about the YPs donation or to learn how you can join in the cause please contact Josh Janowiak.

YP Committee members- don't forget your food item at the next meeting!
