Calling all Techies!

The Chamber is excited to co-sponsor a new local event targeting technology enthusiasts in Northern Michigan called TCnewtech. The group will meet monthly to share short presentations on new products, technologies and business ventures, along with other happenings related to technology.  The target audience includes programmers, IT staff, tech company owners and staff, people looking for investment opportunities or start-up founders looking for investors.

 

The kick-off program is Tuesday, June 2 starting at 6 p.m. at the Center Pointe building in Greilickville. There is no charge to attend or make a presentation. You can learn more at tcnewtech.org or visit the group's Facebook page.


Un-BAH-lievable Prizes

Bay Area Senior Advocates (BASA) will host the May 20 Business After Hours event at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center, with some great activities lined up.

 

Attendees will be able to tour more than 70 booths at the 14th annual "Ideas for Life" Senior Expo. BASA will sponsor a Bingo card game with prizes that include a night's stay at the Days Inn or a 4-person table at an upcoming Traverse City Beach Bums baseball game. Plus we'll have drawings for our other door prizes.

 

But that's not all. The Fresh Start Food Truck rolls in with tasty fare to include sliders, fish tacos, cole slaw and more, plus our normal refreshments. Join us next Wednesday from 5 - 7 p.m. for this can't miss BAH and learn more about the programs and services that BASA offers our region's growing senior population.

SCORE Some Free Business Advice

The award-winning SCORE chapter based here at the Chamber continues to pack the house for its free monthly business workshops held at the Traverse Area District Library. Upcoming programs include:

  • June 9 - Understanding the Financial Fundamentals for Success
  • July 14 - Three Keys to Finding Financing
  • August 11 - How to Get a Smart Start for Your Business

Fellows Discussions Launch Next Week

Leadership Grand Traverse Fellows was launched last year for graduates of Leadership Grand Traverse to re-connect with this venerable and enduring Chamber program.

 

Members of LGT Fellows are invited to a series of refresher courses to re-acquaint them with the local topics highlighted in Leadership Grand Traverse. Upcoming sessions include:

IMPACT | Advocacy for Business
Get Set for Summer this Saturday

The Chamber and Traverse Bay Great Start Collaborative will team up with the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District for an early childhood celebration called "Get Set for Summer" this Saturday, May 16, at the TBAISD Conference Center at 1101 Red Drive in Traverse City.

 

Join us from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. for fun family events including hands-on activities for kids, story time, live music and dancing and everyone's favorite - Moomer's Ice Cream! It's a free program with ideas on how parents can keep their children engaged in learning over the summer months. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan
Dig in for Duggan

Seats are filling up quickly for the June 12 appearance in Traverse City by Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan in the second installment of new Speaker Series of the Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance.

The luncheon program is from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa and sponsored by Consumers Energy. 

Mayor Duggan will discuss the Motor City's economic turnaround and the next steps for it to continue, and where Northern Michigan fits in. Reserve a seat for this presentation from a man recently named by Fortune magazine among the world's greatest leaders.
