The Chamber's 2014 Virtual Candidate Forum

How did the Chamber compile important election information for its members from one of the largest primary candidate fields in Michigan? By going virtual.


The Chamber launched its ground-breaking 2014 Primary Virtual Candidate Forum featuring candidate videos and questionnaires from both Republican and Democrat candidates for the state House 104th District seat and the 37th Senate District race.  The virtual forum tackles several issues including transportation, education funding, business topics and more, and has already generated more than 1,900 views. Click here to access the virtual candidate forum or visit the Chamber's website at

Membership Sales Rep Sought

Chamber Hosts "LocalStake" Event

"Crowdfunding" is a fast-growing method of raising business capital. The Chamber will host crowdfunding specialist Kevin Hitchen from LocalStake for a free program on Aug. 11 starting at 1 p.m. in the Chamber's first floor conference room.


There's a group session from 1 - 2 p.m., followed by one-on-one meetings with Hatch for business people interested in pursuing a crowdfunding event in the next six months. Reservations are needed and available by emailing

Foundation Golf Outing Nears

There's still time to support the Chamber's Leadership programming through the annual Chamber Foundation Golf Outing set for Aug. 20 at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa.


Get your company involved in an event attended by scores of area business people. Prize donations for the raffle drawing are still being accepted, and there are a handful of hole sponsorships available for $100. There are a few openings for golfers as well. Registration includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch and dinner, and tickets for cash and prize drawings.

Local officials endorse Proposal 1
Local Support Grows for Proposal 1

Police, fire and other local officials in the Grand Traverse region gathered at the Chamber office this week to voice their support for Proposal 1 at Michigan's primary election coming up next Tuesday, Aug. 5. Voter approval will end Michigan's antiquated Personal Property Tax (PPT) levy for small businesses and replace it with a stable and growing revenue stream for local services from the state use tax. Kids Fest at the TC Film Festival-It's a Family Thing

Great movies aren't just for grownups. 

The Traverse City Film Festival keeps kids in mind this week with special films for the under 8 crowd

that won't be seen on Saturday morning TV. 

Check out the line up of movies and activities at Lars Hockstad Auditorium and Kids Fest on the lawn at Central Grade School.  Great Start Parents will be there with activities for very young children and information about other fun things to do with kids in the Traverse Bay area.  Come play with us!
