A Great Win for the Great Lakes

Chambers throughout the Upper Midwest - including the Traverse City Area Chamber - worked with Congressional  lawmakers to boost federal dollars for harbor maintenance and dredging projects across the Great Lakes. Representatives of the Great Lakes Metro Chambers Coalition said it's a "game changer" in that it creates an enforcement mechanism for funding the federal Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund. Learn About Prop 1 and House 104th Candidates

The Aug. 5 primary election is less than three weeks away! It's a critical election for Michigan's business sector as voter approval of Proposal 1 will make permanent the repeal of the Personal Property Tax (PPT) for Michigan's small businesses. The Traverse City Area Chamber joined businesses, municipalities and a broad base of organizations across Michigan to support Proposal 1, which will replace the PPT with a more stable and equitable essential service assessment on large companies that won't raise taxes for Michigan residents.

You can show your support for Proposal 1 and get the latest updates from the Michigan Citizens for Strong and Safe Communities by clicking here.

You can learn more at an informational program on the Personal Property Tax on July 22 from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Michigan Works! office at 1209 S. Garfield Ave. in Traverse City. The Chamber is co-sponsoring the event with the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments and the Michigan Economic Development Corp. The program is free but pre-registration is needed and available by clicking here.

The League of Women Voters Grand Traverse Area is also sponsoring a forum featuring the candidates for the state House 104th District race in Grand Traverse County. That's also set for July 22 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Center Road in Traverse City. The public is welcome.
