Dear Nonprofit Supporter,

Welcome to Cedar Valley Connections, a newsletter to connect the leaders of the nonprofit sector.

CVNA Member Spotlight ...

Mission: To improve the health care of the people and communities we serve.
Vision: To provide the best outcome for every patient every time.

Henry and Mary Allen settled in Waterloo in the early 1860s. They prospered here for 40 years as business people and breeders of fine horses. They moved to California in 1900, but never forgot friends and neighbors back home. After Mary died in 1913, Henry resolved to do something lasting in her memory. Henry promised the citizens of Waterloo 80 acres of prime land and $200,000 to found a non-sectarian hospital open to all, regardless of circumstance. Allen Hospital was dedicated on Mary's birthday in November 1924 and opened in February 1925. Five generations of Cedar Valley families have been beneficiaries of his gift ever since.

The goal of the affiliation between the Black Hawk-Grundy Mental Health Center and UnityPoint Health - Waterloo is for our organizations to more closely work together to provide both physical and behavioral healthcare in the right place at the right time by the right providers.

One in every five people struggles with mental illness. The Black Hawk Grundy Mental Health Center provides comprehensive and accessible mental health services for children, adolescents, adults, older adults, couples and families.
Black Hawk Grundy Mental Health Center is a private, nonprofit, community mental health center accredited by the Iowa Department of Human Services
