Attracting Millennials: How To Recruit Interns, Volunteers & Employees 

    
 

When:  Thursday, February 5, 2015

Where: Philanthropy Center (3rd Floor US Bank Building - Waterloo)

Time:    8-9:15 a.m.

Cost:     Free for CVNA members, $25 non-members  


Come and hear directly from your future volunteer, intern or employee!  Learn what they want from YOU.  Learn where you need to go at UNI to find the future of your organization. Laura Wilson from UNI's Career Services will address what an agency needs to do to prepare for a new, recent graduate for volunteering, an internship or employment. In addition a panel of students including recent graduates, current students seeking employment and graduate students will give insight into attracting millennial's.

Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa Grant Applications Due April 1 

 

Grant applications can now be submitted to the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa for its 2015 spring grant cycle. The deadline to submit applications is midnight (CST) April 1, 2015. 


 
Grants are awarded to projects in the following areas: art and culture, community betterment, education, environment, health, historic preservation and human service.

 

The online grant application may be found on the Community Foundation's website at www.cfneia.org. Grants recipients will be announced June 2015.

 

First-time grant applicants should contact Tom Wickersham, Program Director, at (319) 287-9106 ext. 20 prior to submitting an application.

 

Grant applicants must be a 501(c)(3) designated organization (or government entity) serving Black Hawk County in order to be considered for funding.

Hack-A-Thon For Nonprofits...

What:   A statewide "hack-a-thon" event known as dsmHack 

Where: Gravitate, 206 Sixth Avenue, Des Moines 

When:  February 26-28, 2015

Cost:     Early bird registration $20 until February 16th, $35 after 2/16

            Registration includes meals, drinks, snacks and a t-shirt.

 

Last year, dsmHack brought together over 80 developers, designers and innovators from around Iowa to build software and websites for nonprofit organizations. Charities interested in having their problems turned into technology-related solutions can submit a proposal at dsmhack.org

 

Participating nonprofits will be selected by the hack-a-thon review committee and announced to the public at the dsmHack kick-off event on Feb. 26. The selected charities will then be asked to pitch their need to attendees. Participants will self-select and divide into groups for a 48-hour coding rush to work on the charity project of their choice.

The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa is seeking a highly motivated individual for a new Marketing Associate position.   The Marketing Associate reports to and works closely with the Director of Marketing and Communication to strengthen and improve the quality of life in northeast Iowa through the effective implementation of marketing and communication plans and initiatives of the Community Foundation. The individual in this position is responsible for assisting with the development, scheduling and production of marketing and communication projects and materials, and helps ensure that messages are supportive of and consistent with the brand and overall Community Foundation strategies.

What:   Cedar Bend Humane Society's Valentine's Day celebration 

When:  Saturday, February 14th

Time:   10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 

Where: 1166 West Airline Highway, Waterloo. 

 

There will be reduced price adoptions, and sweet treats for everyone. Register to win a gift basket or purchase a $25 candy bouquet or $30 super snack attack box for your Valentine. Donate $1.00 and smooch with a pooch at the kissing booth from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) awarded the CBHS a grant to ready 50 dogs and cats for this Valentine's Day event. The grant monies will be used to vaccinate, neuter, spay, heartworm test and flea treat 25 dogs and 25 cats in preparation for the CBHS's "Adopt the Love of Your Life" Valentine's Day event.
