Grant Opportunity Available: Deadline 6/18/14 -- Don't Miss Out!!!
Silos & Smokestacks General Grants help fund agricultural related interpretive projects in the Heritage Area including exhibit development, educational programs, interpretive signage, marketing, and event programming. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, local/regional governments or federally recognized Indian tribes with projects located within the Heritage Area. Applicants need not be a designated SSNHA Partner Sites or located within the Heritage Area, however, the grant project work must benefit the Heritage Area directly. Grant awards range from $1,000 to $10,000.

The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service (ICVS) is pleased provide funding in the form of George H.W. Bush Volunteer Generation Fund grants, which support development and strengthening of the volunteer infrastructure in Iowa through Volunteer Centers. The 2014 grant represents year four of a four-year federal appropriation.  Additional funding may be available through future federal appropriations.  For the latest news, we invite you to visit this page from time to time

The purpose of this Request for Application ("Application") is to solicit applications from organizations that have, or are developing, the capacity and funding to support a volunteer connector organization, but who need additional resources to meet the competencies outlined in this application. 


New organizations, not currently receiving VGF grant funds, that have or are developing the capacity and funding to support a volunteer connector organization are eligible to apply.

Christmas in July

The Waverly-Shell Rock Area United Way is announcing the 

first-ever "Christmas in July" community initiative this summer. 


Christmas in July will run from approximately June 26th to July 10th. During these two weeks, we will be collecting personal hygiene products throughout the community. Employees and customers of local businesses will have the opportunity to donate personal hygiene items for those in need in the Waverly-Shell Rock area. 


The items collected will be distributed through our partner agencies to youth, elderly, families in need, and persons with intellectual disabilities in the Waverly-Shell Rock Area.  Click here for a list of items needed.

Donations can also be accepted at the United Way office.

Job Description:  Proven leadership, experience in educational programming, community outreach and partnership development.  Responsibilities with local food value chain and food advocates, Master Gardeners, community and school gardens, local growers.  Bachelor's Degree (Masters' preferred) in horticulture, agriculture education, sustainable agriculture, or related field.

Job Description:  Executive Director (ExDir) will support the CFCT, the board and the community as significant growth is realized over the next few years. The ExDir will provide leadership and support to the board and donors as: the CFCF becomes a certified community foundation; existing funds grow; and new initiatives and funding opportunities develop.

Job Description:  Acquires necessary financial and volunteer resources to support programs through direct marketing of programs and manages assigned special events for the Cedar Valley Area.  The position also implements public relations plan to develop broader market base and leads the Cedar Valley Area Board of Directors.

Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.  Two years JA or related sales experience with strong sales expertise and performance, proven written/oral communication, and organizational/planning skills.

Ronald McDonald House Grant Program


Area nonprofits can now apply for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois Grant.  Looking to improve the health and well being of the children beyond the walls of the RMHC of Iowa City.  The RMHC of Eastern Iowa nd Western Illinois will award over $75,000 to local organizations dedicated to the same mission.  
The RMHC of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois  Grants program aims to make an impact on children's live by awarding grants to qualified nonprofit organization assisting thousands of children outside of the Ronald McDonald House.  Over the course of the six-year existence with the RMHC of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois , this program has impacted over 44,000 children that never had the need to step insdie the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City.
