Come network with our Grant Gurus on Thursday, May 23rd at 11:30am in the Philanthropy Center (3rd floor of the US Bank building, 425 Cedar Street in Waterloo). Attendees should be plan to spend time talking about their organization, sharing a sample of their grant funded projects, discussing major funders, etc., and any project ideas that could be a collaboration with other members.

AmeriCorps Vista
Northeast Iowa Food Bank
The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is looking for candidates for two, one-year AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) positions. Each position will work to build capacity of the Food Bank and member agencies, in turn increasing the number of those in need that are served by the organization. Skills needed include: excellent verbal and written communication, ability to work independently, analytical and creative problem solving abilities and an interest in non-profit and social service work.
VISTA is a national service program aimed at fighting poverty and enhancing the organization's capacity to serve their clients. If you choose to apply and are accepted you will be committed to the organization full-time for one year. There are many benefits to becoming a VISTA worker including: your choice of the $5,350 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or a $1,500 year-end stipend, a modest living allowance, health care, relocation allowance, and the ability to gain real-world experience not found in a typical entry-level job. Through VISTA individuals can make a tangible difference and find the fulfillment that comes from using knowledge and skills to help those in disadvantaged circumstances turn their dreams into reality.

| Affiliate Community Foundation Program Assistant
Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa
The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa is seeking an individual who will work as a VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) with responsibility to develop and implement local and statewide strategies and programs to build the
capacity of local community foundation volunteers to capture the transfer of wealth in community based endowments.
Duties include increasing awareness and understanding of community foundations, planning/implementing programming with community foundation volunteers, and growing endowment funds for charitable causes.
Desirable candidates have experience or strong knowledge of the nonprofit sector, excellent time management and facilitation skills, and a demonstrated passion for community building. Travel required. Full-time VISTA position with benefits (annual stipend of approximately $11,136, choice of $5,550 Segal Education Award OR $1,500 end-of-service stipend, health care and more). The position begins in July and has a 12-month duration.

The Waterloo Center for the Arts is offering new Design Labs as part of its programming. This five-part interactive series will introduce a variety of design topics facing both the professional and the at-home designer. The first Design Lab: Mobile Digital Photography is on Thursday, May 2 from 6:30-7:30pm. Learn about apps and explore advanced features available on the IPhone relating to mobile digital photography. MINGLE AND LEARN ABOUT RENOVATIONS |

North Star Community Services (3420 University Avenue) is having an Open House on April 30 from 1:00 to 5:00 in celebration of the completion of our recent extensive renovation project. There will be a program and re-dedication at 1:30. Tourswill be conducted. Light refreshments will be served.
The event is open to anyone who wants to attend and learn a little more about what North Star is all about! |
AFP CHAPTER MEETING |
The Assoc. of Fundraising Professionals - NE Iowa Chapter is having a chapter meeting on May 9th at 12 noon, Beck's Sports Brewery on University Avenue in Waterloo.
There will be roundtable discussion facilitated by Maria Benham (Big Brothers/Big Sisters) and Matt Rolinger (Allen Hospital Foundation) and the topic is "What to do when you've angered a donor!" Please come prepared with your best stories.
The cost is $10 for members and $20 for non-members and includes lunch.

Request for Proposals: Iowa Women's Foundation 2014 Grants
The Iowa Women's Foundation (IWF) is accepting grant proposals for its annual grant-giving cycle for projects that begin on January 1, 2014 or later. The Foundation is seeking applications for projects that advance economic security and/or promote leadership opportunities for Iowa women and girls.
The deadline for applications is Friday, May 31, 2013 at 5 p.m.
All projects applying for funding from the IWF must be specifically for women and/or girls in Iowa. Informal groups of women and/or girls, grassroots organizations, and formal not-for-profit organizations may apply for funding. All proposed activities must be not-for-profit in nature. The IWF seeks to fund projects that go beyond the provision of direct services to create underlying social change. Together we can build a stronger statewide network of services for Iowa women and girls. Explore

GRANTS IMPACTING CHILDREN

RMHC-Eastern Iowa Grants to Help Local Children
Area non-profits can now apply for the Ronald McDonald House Charities� of Eastern Iowa (RMHC of Eastern Iowa) grant. Looking to improve the health and well-being of children beyond the walls of the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City, RMHC of Eastern Iowa will award over $35,000 to local organizations dedicated to the same mission.
The RMHC of Eastern Iowa Grants Program aims to make an impact on children's lives by awarding grants to qualified non-profit organizations assisting thousands of children outside of the Ronald McDonald House. Over the course of its five year existence with RMHC of Eastern Iowa, this program has impacted over 17,000 children that never had the need to step inside the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City.
Applications for the grants are due no later than September 3, 2013.
