YWCA of Black Hawk County

Latino Services Case Manager

 

Seeking individual to provide case management, translation/interpretation and educational programming to Latino individuals. 20-25 hours per week; some evenings required. Verbal/written fluency in Spanish/English required. Related degree; relevant experience preferred.

Senior Director of Community Resources

Cedar Valley United Way seeks an individual to provide leadership and coordination for the Campaign and Community Impact Work.  This position will establish relationships with donors, volunteers and community members to gather resources to invest in the community.  This position will lead the implementation of strategies to achieve the goals of collective community impact work.

 

Excellent communication, relationship building, interpersonal, and strategic planning skills are required.  A Bachelor's degree and three years' experience in management and resource development is preferred.  Salary is commensurate with experience and background.  Competitive benefit package is included.

Who needs the beach when downtown Waterloo has the World's Greatest Spring Break for Kids!  Monday, March 18 - Friday, March 22, admission at awesome venues in downtown Waterloo is only $1 per person.  Please spread the word about this affordable event for families!  The best source of information is

Human Trafficking Speaker
Rev. Brian McVey

Thursday, April 11, 6:30-8:00 p.m

 at St. Stephen the Witness Catholic Student Center


Rev. Brian, a well-known leader in the fight against human trafficking in Iowa and at the national level, will present some basic facts about human trafficking, share stories of sexual trafficking & how prevalent it is in Iowa {including local examples}, signs of human trafficking, and what his congregation is doing to combat it.  There will be plenty of time for questions during and after his presentation.

Northeast Iowa Food Bank

will host the annual
Combat Hunger
at area grocery stores this weekend.

With the help of many volunteers and built-in incentives, it is anticipated that the event will yield record results. Food Bank staff and volunteers will be at the entrances of 12 local grocery stores beginning on April 5th through April 7th. Volunteers will be located at all six Cedar Valley Hy-Vee Stores located in Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Waverly, Fareway stores located in Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Evansdale and Waverly, Hometown Foods and Randalls Stop N Shop.

Both volunteers and store employees will encourage shoppers to support this worthy cause. Store patrons can help by adding either $1 or $3 to their grocery bill or by making a cash or food donation directly to the volunteers. Volunteer help is still needed, so please contact us today to help. Finally, don't forget to visit one of the participating locations on April 5th - 7th and help us Combat Hunger.

Join Us!  The YWCA's Seventh Annual Women of Persimmon Luncheon

Thursday, April 4th from 11:30-1:00pm 
 at the new Hilton Garden Inn in the Cedar Falls Industrial Park 
 
During the luncheon, we will recognize and honor outstanding women, businesses and organizations in the Cedar Valley.


Tickets to the luncheon are only $35 or a table of eight can be purchased for $250 by calling the YWCA at 234-7589.

RSVPs should be made by March 22.

Community Orientation Free Event which focuses on serving families with children prenatal-5yrs. They would like to increase the relationship with the community and connect with each other in order to better serve children and families in the future.

Iowans show good character every day, and many times it goes unnoticed.  There are countless individuals and organizations whose exemplary character is a model for us all.

The Iowa Character Awards highlight the best among us - those who do the right thing, even when no one is looking. Their stories inspire us and provide a renewed sense of pride in our state.

 

Students, teachers, schools, organizations, sports teams can all be nominated, and we want to make sure we spread the word!

RMHC-EASTERN IOWA GRANTS TO HELP LOCAL CHILDREN
 
   
 
Area non-profits can now apply for the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Eastern Iowa (RMHC of Eastern Iowa) grant. Looking to improve the health and well-being of children beyond the walls of the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City, RMHC of Eastern Iowa will award over $35,000 to local organizations dedicated to the same mission.

 

The RMHC of Eastern Iowa Grants Program aims to make an impact on children's lives by awarding grants to qualified non-profit organizations assisting thousands of children outside of the Ronald McDonald House. Over the course of its five year existence with RMHC of Eastern Iowa, this program has impacted over 17,000 children that never had the need to step inside the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City.

 

Applications for the grants are due no later than September 3, 2013.
