Greetings!

The completion of the house in Namugongo represents a very significant milestone for the Ugandan Lambs Association.  The children now have a home that is not only large enough to accommodate all thirty children but is a safe haven that was built to withstand the natural elements as well as the ever present potential danger in Uganda known as the Lords Resistance Army (LRA).  The article below describes LRA activities in Africa.  Praise God that the children now have a secure place to call "home"!

The children are away at boarding school until August when they will be released for a one month school break.  While they are in Kayunga and Namugongo, they participate in age appropriate chores around the compound; however, there is a significant amount of idle time. It is our desire to provide the children with activities during the school break that will have a long term impact on their lives.  We have had several discussions with Child Evangelical Fellowship (CEF) regarding a 4 day Vacation Bible Camp that could be presented at each location.  CEF is well known in the USA for after school "Good News Clubs" and summertime "Five Day Clubs".  The Kampala branch of CEF has volunteers and a curriculum but does not have sufficient funds.  The projected budget is $1400.00 to cover the cost of transportation, training materials, meals, supplies, training older children to assist, etc.  Please pray for funding to meet the needs listed below!  Donations may be made in person, online, or by check.

Our featured child for the month of July is a delightful 9 year old girl, Catherine Ajambo, UL#58.  Catherine entered the Ugandan Lambs program in January, 2013 and is currently not sponsored.  Child sponsorship is a very rewarding experience that allows each sponsor to engage in a life changing experience.  Sponsors may never know the full extent their involvement will make on the young lives they reach across the miles to care for!

Prayer partners, office volunteers, bookkeepers, sponsors, and general fund supporters are needed.  All help is very much appreciated.  Together we can make a difference in one of the poorest countries in the world!

Potential Danger, School Break, Sponsorship

POTENTIAL DANGER

LORDS RESISTANCE ARMY (LRA)

The LRA originated approximately 20 years ago in Uganda under the leadership of Joseph Koney who is currently wanted by the International Criminal Court for allegedly committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. Over the past two decades the LRA is accused of killing and mutilating thousands of people. Additionally, countless children have been kidnapped for use as soldiers and sex slaves. Since orphaned children are prime targets for these and other illegal activities, it is absolutely essential that our children have a secure place to live!

Henry Okello Oryem, Uganda's Foreign Minister, reported in May, 2013, that the LRA is not currently based in Uganda and that neighboring countries (Central African Republic and Republic of the Congo) are cooperating with U.S. Special Forces in the area to hunt down the LRA.  The number of atrocities in the area have been reduced in recent years.

SCHOOL BREAK

SUMMERTIME
ACTIVITIES

The Ugandan Lambs children look forward to their month long school break during the month of August. It is a chance to see their brothers, sisters, and friends who attend school at different locations.  It is also a long period of time with little or nothing to do!

The children could do gardening, painting, sewing, silk screening, weaving, carving and countless other crafts; however, there is no money to purchase materials. Many of the older children have learned valuable skills at school and could teach the younger ones during the school break, giving them all an opportunity to be creative. Craft items and produce could be sold at the local marketplace to provide funds for additional materials, creating a more self-sustaining program.

JULY FEATURED CHILD

CATHERINE AJAMBO
UL#58

Catherine is our featured child for the month of July. She is currently 9 years old and has no recollection of either parent.  When her parents died, she was left with relatives who could not adequately provide for her. She is from the Namugongo area and does not have any known brothers or sisters.

Catherine was born HIV positive.  Since joining the UL program she has been seen monthly at the HIV clinic and is on daily medications.  Her health is satisfactory at the moment.

Catherine is a quiet, respectful little girl who enjoys reading, singing and would like to become a nurse or doctor when she grows up.

Sponsorship will allow her to continue with her education and have the opportunity to be successful!

Please consider becoming her sponsor and showing her in a tangible way that she is loved and truly cared for!
