HEALTH CONCERN
MALARIA
Malaria is a constant threat in Uganda due to the warm, humid climate and proximity to Lake Victoria. These factors create perfect conditions for the proliferation of mosquitoes. The CDC estimates that in 2010 there were 219 million clinical incidents of malaria worldwide. Of these, 655,000 deaths were reported. Most of the deaths were young children living in sub-Saharah Africa.
Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease that causes fever, joint pain, vomiting, and headache. Severe cases progress to seizures, coma, and ultimately death.
There are several types of the microorganism Plasmodium that is responsible for causing malaria. P. Falciparum is the most severe type, while P. Malaria causes less severe symptoms and is generally not fatal.
Malaria is diagnosed by microscopic analysis of blood samples. Treatment consists of fever management, hydration, and antimalarial medications.
Constant efforts to control the mosquito population and prevent bites are the most effective measures that can be taken to reduce the incidence of malaria.
Our children each have mosquito nets and are educated to take precautions: however, there are numerous factors outside of our control that make malaria almost impossible to avoid!

We are asking each sponsor, donor, board member, family, friends, etc to write a brief review of our organization. For each review that is read and found to be helpful we receive a "vote".
