Greetings!
During our January trip to Uganda we administered medications and took care of many of the children's physical ailments; however, we realized we were somewhat unprepared to address some of the issues they expressed concerns about.  The older children have unique concerns as they complete their formal education and we have concerns about their spiritual foundation (see articles below).

We were grateful for the overwhelming turn out at the February 10th Sponsors/Donors Update.  We would like our sponsors/donors to make suggestions for topics for future updates. Please email us with your suggestions.

This month, we're happy to present a short story for Harriet, ULA ID 020.  Harriet is sponsored thankfully at this time, so if you're interested in sponsoring other children, you can review their bio and picture at the following link, http://www.uglambs.org/lamb_bios.html where we list their ULA ID, sponsor status and short biography.  Or if you already know their ULA ID, you can click on the Donate Link below to start the process.

Just let us know in the payment comments which child you would like to sponsor by ID # and child first name.  If you would just like to help our general fund, let us know that as well.  Some sponsors have been creative and co-sponsored a child together.  Any amount of participation, we're truly grateful for.  We do also want committed prayer partners since we hold strong to our belief in God's providence.

A Future Beyond Ugandan Lambs

Beyond Ugandan Lambs

As the children mature and complete their formal education, they are facing a time of transition from the relatively secure Ugandan Lambs environment to a world where they will, hopefully, be responsible young adults entering the work force.

They have similar hopes, dreams, and fears as their North American counterparts; however, the Ugandan Lambs children do not have the parental guidance or family safety net that most of us take for granted.

While the team was in Uganda in January, we had several interesting discussions with some of the older children regarding their time of transition.  It became apparent that most of them need guidance! Sam was able to arrange for the Director of Human Resources at a major Kampala bank to come to speak with the older children to help prepare them for entry into the working world.

Additionally, some former Ugandan Lambs who have successfully completed their education are willing to share their experiences with the children currently in the program to help to alleviate some of their anxiety.

Our Board of Directors will be looking at this issue over the next few months and developing guidelines that will help us as an organization to effectively
prepare the children to become independent adults.
Spiritual Well Being

Meeting the spiritual needs of the Ugandan Lambs children is a challenge.

Each child received their own Bible in January, thanks to the generosity of the Thursday Night Men's Bible Study Group at Cornerstone Church. What a blessing it was to see the children enthusiastically looking up a passage and having a real desire to know the Word!

As a Christian organization, we are committed to ensuring that the Ugandan Lambs children have the
opportunity to develop a firm Biblical world view as we prepare them to become independent adults.

As we move forward we will need to identify mentors and teachers to lead Bible studies and have an ongoing impact on the children's spiritual lives.

There are many barriers (distance, limited access to technology, decentralized schools, etc.) that will need to be overcome to ensure that the
children have a solid spiritual foundation.

Harriet UL # 020

Harriet's parents died from HIV/AIDS when she was 4 years old. Her mother was the niece of Ruth Sebabi, co-founder of Ugandan Lambs in Uganda. She has one older sister who assumed the role of surrogate mother for Harriet when their parents and elderly grandmother died, leaving them with no adult caregiver.

Their aunt Ruth, decided to personally care for Harriet and her sister at the Ugandan Lambs orphanage where they were provided with a safe, nurturing environment. Additionally, their education, health, and spiritual well being could be more effectively monitored. Harriet's sister ran away which was extremely difficult for Harriet.

Harriet had a particularly emotionally traumatic childhood which has impacted her educationally. She would like to continue her studies and eventually become a nurse.

Education is is the key to unlocking the door to a successful future and breaking the cycle of poverty!
