Green and growing or are you ripe and rotting????

Organizations and leaders must continually ask themselves this question.  Scripture tells us "Where there is no vision people parish!"  Great organizations and true leaders must continue to learn and grow if they are going to continue to operate at high levels.  Willard Public Schools shares this belief.  Some organizations make the mistake of trying to do too much or even getting locked into a growth plan that is inflexible.

Each year Willard creates a CSIP (Comprehensive School Improvement Plan) this plan is used as a roadmap for moving the district forward.  The district has four foundational goals.  Two to four action plans are created for each goal in the new year.  Prior to creating new goals the previous years CSIP is evaluated for success.  Items are inspected to determine if they should remain on the CSIP or have been achieved.

Last night the BOE reviewed a draft of the 2016-2017 CSIP.  They will have time to personally review the plan and it will be discussed once again on October 4th.  Intentions are for the plan to be approved at that meeting.  Even though I don't like green bananas I never want to be described as "ripe and rotting"!!  Click on the following link to view the 2015-2016 CSIP evaluation and 2016-2017 CSIP.   Willard CSIP

Hope to see you at Homecoming tonight!
Have a great weekend!

It is hard to believe, but some of our Fall Tigers are past the halfway point of their season and we are preparing for district play and senior nights...time truly does fly!  Couldn't be more proud of the seasons our Tigers are having.  They play such a big role in making this school district a special, unique, and second-to-none place to be!  Thank you Tigers!

This has been Homecoming Week and despite Mother Nature's best efforts to squash our school spirit, the student body and community hasn't let that happen!  What a great week it has been and it will conclude with the Homecoming festivities starting at 6:30pm tonight followed by kickoff vs. Carthage at 7:00pm (all weather permitting of course).

The volleyball Tigers won the championship of the Hillcrest Tournament last Saturday and rode that momentum into Monday as they defeated Lebanon.  They lost a close one to Nixa but will look to get back on the winning track next week as they travel to Rogersville on Monday, host Neosho on Tuesday, and travel to Webb City on Thursday.

The softball Tigers had a big COC win over Carthage on Tuesday but lost a close one to Ozark last night.  They will play in the prestigious Liberty Tournament this weekend before getting back home next Tuesday to host Carl Junction and will travel to Branson on Thursday.

The soccer Tigers had a good win over Laquey last night and will look to ride that momentum this weekend as they play in the Parkview Tournament.  Next week, the Tigers will travel to Carthage on Tuesday before hosting the Willard Fall Classic next Friday and Saturday.

Here are the results for the girls golf team at the Pearson Invitational on Monday:

Team Score: 390
Team Place: 7th/14

Jordyn Staley - 90
Hannah Scott - 94
Bailey Curry - 100
Kamryn Amstutz - 106
Raelyn Schapeler - 108

The COC golf tournament will be next Thursday in Joplin.

Congratulations to both cross country teams as they swept first place honors at our own Willard cross country meet!  Their next meet will be at Nixa next Tuesday.

WHS students and staff exhibit servant leadership in many ways and often.  Earlier this week, a large shipment of frozen products were delivered to our food service department during lunch time.  Seeing the issue and mounds of boxes, Coach Adamson and Coach Frazier organized their students moving and stacking product in the walk-in freezers.  Students were happy to help and food service staff were greatly appreciative.  These acts of kindness happen daily at WHS indicating the quality of students and staff we have at Willard!

WHS students have had a great homecoming week.  Even though lightening and weather prevented the parade, students adapted and celebrated with a great bonfire.  Spirit days have been fun with students and staff participating all week.  Events continue this afternoon, Friday, with an assembly, crowning, football game, and dance.  Thank you to our SGA students and sponsors for organizing such a great and fun week!

Mr. Tom Tobin is the WHS School-to-career instructor.  He is continuing the development of the newly developed internship program.  Forty-two students are participating in the Career Explorations 1 course.  These students are researching careers, developing a digital portfolio that includes a resume, and discussing employability skills.  More than 12 students are currently enrolled for Career Explorations 2 in the spring semester.  These students will be placed in two different 9-week internships gaining real-world experience.  We are excited about the rigor and relevance this program will bring to student learning.

Volleyball started off their season with big wins against Strafford!  The team work that was displayed by the girls was amazing.  Keep up the great work ladies!

Football competed against Republic last night.  8th graders traveled to Republic and although they did not win, they made a good effort.  7th graders played at home and A team walked away with a WIN!

Cross Country co-hosted a meet and did well despite the rain. We are proud of all these runners efforts.  Congratulations to Blake Hultgren for earning 1st place and Kierra Crase was the top Willard girl finishing 6th!

We are low on concession stand helpers for all of the middle school games. If you are interested in helping at one of our upcoming events, please sign up here.

They must plan to attend both audition days or see Ms. Graves to make arrangements to audition at a different time.

Many of our students are finding a way to make their mark through after school clubs and activities.  Running Club, Drama Llamas, Dodgeball, Bow Club, Reading Club, and Lego Club all met this week.  Next week Maker Monday's, Shooting Stars, and Pokemon Go Club will kick off  with their first meeting.  These activities all share a common purpose; finding ways for students to connect to our school community outside of the regular classroom.  We would love to see all of our students involved in one of our many activities!

The democratic process is alive and well at WIS.  Our Student Council elections were held last week and based on the number of campaign posters we had around the building we have lots of students eager to make their mark by representing their classroom.  We are proud of all our
students that chose to run for election and know that this group of young men and women will serve to make WIS an even more awesome place to learn and grow!

Orchard Hills is pleased to announce a new opportunity for students during the 2016-2017 school year. Students will have the opportunity to participate in our Motor Lab twice per month. This program provides intentional, targeted movement for students in an effort to help them learn. The link between movement and learning is crystal clear in the research and we are seeking ways to help students in any way that we can. Below are a couple of pictures of students participating in our motor lab and loving every minute of it.

Upcoming events include:

September 21st-- Fall picture day
October 6-- All Pro Dads Breakfast 7:15-8:15 a.m.
October 7-- WOHE Fall Festival 6:00-8:00 p.m.

This week our school focused on Habit 3: Put First Things First.  This habit is important because it focuses us on our priorities.  Mrs. Berry helped us focus on setting the "Big Rocks" of family, friends, faith, our profession, passions and goals to successfully manage our time.  "Lee Leaderson" played a game of Put Firs t Things First! with 2 families of students.  The students buzzed in to choose the best options for wisely using your time and putting work before play.  The students enjoyed the activities and could be heard throughout the school this week talking about putting important things first (in a television announcer voice with cheezy actions).

Students were also busy this week applying for their student leadership roles.  Upon completing their applications, students will be interviewed by staff members this week and next week.  Twenty-two leadership teams ranging from public speaker leaders, movie makers, music leaders, student ambassadors and beyond are in the works to help students develop their strengths and grow as leaders.  Interviews are one of the highlights of this process as students prepare and proudly share what makes them the perfect fit for their desired roles!

This week we focused on Habit 4:  Think Win-Win.  This is the belief that everyone can win.  It's not me or you--it is both of us.  It is a belief that there are enough good things for everyone.  It is an abundant way of thinking.  Think Win-Win is being happy for others when good things happen to them.  As a parent and teacher, not everything is negotiable, but if you go into discussions with children with a win-win mindset, you'll find a lot less resistance.

Today we kicked-off our fundraiser for the year.  It is a brochure, cookie and coupon book sale through the Great American Opportunities company.  The sale will run from September 16th-30th.  This one and only brochure sale for Willard South Elementary has helped support the purchase of our sound system, new piano, playground equipment, tiger t-shirts and field trips in the past. This year our goal is to raise enough money to continue purchasing our tiger t-shirts, playground supplies, and field trips for each classroom.
