Willard was pleased to host Dr. Stacey Preis, Deputy Commissioner of Education, this week for a tour of buildings and classrooms.  Dr. Preis was specifically interested in strategies used to help teachers grow, as well as innovative new programs.

The group toured several classrooms which allowed Dr. Preis to interact and visit with students.  She commented that students seemed "at ease" even with several adults present in the room.  I shared that Willard commonly has adults other than the teacher present in classrooms including building administrators, Instructional Coaches, district administrators, paraprofessionals, etc...  The group visited in-depth about teacher surveys and Willard processes to gather this data.  Dr. Preis was impressed by a group of random high-school students who introduced her to Canvas, which is the districts digital learning platform.  The tour completed with an overview of the district's new Internship Program.

The district had a one day notice prior to the visit.  One of the organizers apologized for the short notice.   I shared that Willard is always more than willing to show-off our teachers and students.  I always have confidence that I can bring any visitor into any of our buildings knowing that high quality learning is occurring.
I would like to thank all the community members that joined us for the Community tailgate!  Staff and students helped to serve over 1000 for the event.  I appreciate the efforts of the BOE members, administrative interns, National Honor Society student volunteers, Custodial, Food Service, and District Office Staff.  It was a great first home football game!

Have a great weekend!

Well isn't Mother Nature a fickle lady!  Between lightning delays and monsoonal rains, several of our games have been either cancelled or moved to different dates but that has NOT stopped our Tigers from having another great week!

Football lost a heartbreaker last Friday to Neosho before a large and enthusiastic crowd.  It was a great atmosphere and an exciting game.  Tonight, our Tigers travel to Webb City to take on our COC foe.  Next week is Homecoming week!  We have a parade on Wednesday starting at 6:00pm and the Homecoming festivities will be held prior to the game.  Kickoff is at 7:00pm as we will take on Carthage.

Congratulations to the volleyball Tigers on defeating Glendale and Fair Grove this week running their record to an impressive 9-1-1 on the season (yes, I know, I had it wrong last week).  The girls will play in the Hillcrest Tournament this Saturday before hosting Lebanon on Tuesday and traveling to Nixa on Thursday.

The soccer Tigers had a big COC win over Carl Junction last night 2-1.  The game was played in less than stellar conditions but our Tigers prevailed with a huge win!  Next week, they will be on the road as they travel to Republic on Tuesday and Carthage on Thursday.

Softball is dealing with Mother Nature as well.  After soundly defeating Neosho on Tuesday, the girls were rained out at Webb City last night leading 2-0 in the 2nd inning.  The game will be concluded on Monday, Sept. 19th.  Next week they will host Carthage on Tuesday and travel to Ozark on Thursday.

The golf team played in the Ozark Invitational on Thursday and here are the results:
Team Score: 456
Team Place: 11th out of 18 Teams

Individuals
Jordyn Staley - 120
Hannah Scott - 111
Kamryn Amstutz - 119
Bailey Curry - 111
Raelyn Schapeler - 115
Next week they will play in the Pearson Invitational (Horton Smith CC) on Monday and will host the Willard Invitational on Thursday.

Cross Country ran at Carthage yesterday and I'm still waiting on results.  Next week they will host our own Willard meet on Thursday at our new course located at the high school!

This week, students learned about Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind.  Students and staff talked about creating goals and personal mission s
tatements.  Many students also interviewed people learning about the need for "grit" in persevering and overcoming obstacles to achieve their goals.  Student stories included a dad overcoming multiple strokes to walk again, moms finishing school while raising a family and families overcoming the loss of a jobs/income. They were powerful personal examples of grit and achieving goals.  One example that made a big impact for students was the movie trailer for On the Way to School (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIsQ0B43Q9Y).  Check out the link to get a good picture of Beginning with the End in Mind and grit

Willard Central also welcomed parents to school on Thursday evening for Parent Orientation.  Thank you to our parents and staff taking the evening to talk about grade level expectations and practices to support student success.  Coach Brown and Miss Siebert also shared with parents about the LIM process.  Student Leader Rylee Adams stole the show sharing how the LIM process and 7 habits have helped change his perspective on life and facing difficult times.  It was a great evening partnering with parents while learning about the heart of our school.

It was a great first week of September at Willard North!  We had our first Super Tiger last Wednesday and all the students received their school t-shirt from PTO.  It was awesome to see every student in their school shirt, showing school spirit.  We ended this week with our 2nd grade celebrating Grandparent's Day.  Grandparents participated in different activities with their grandchildren.

Looking ahead...
