District Office
One of the many strong cultural points of Willard Schools and the greater Ozarks area is the sense of urgency in caring for others.  Willard Children's Charitable Foundation began in 2005 to meet health, hunger, and hygiene needs of children.  The foundation  has steadily grown and now provides numerous scholarships for students to continue their goals and dreams.  WCCF is committed to children's needs and partners with other agencies in the SWMO area in support of all children.

One way you can support WCCF is by having fun with great people and hearing fantastic music.  On Saturday, September 24th, WCCF will be hosting the 2nd annual Pickin' & Praisin" Bluegrass Gospel Jamboree.  The event will be held at the newly constructed Sac River Cowboy Church Event Center (located at 2328 North Farm Rd 101, Springfield MO). An incredible lineup of musicians will begin performing at 12:30pm, with the last band performing at 5:00pm.  I invite you to join us in a fantastic afternoon of fun, music, and fellowship for the benefit of children.

Assistant Superintendent
Community Tailgate
We would like to invite the community to our tailgate prior to our first home football game against the Neosho wildcats, Friday September 2. The tailgate will begin at 5:30 and end at 7:00. Please join us for a hot dog, cookie and a drink in the backyard of the District Office.

Athletics & Activities
"It's hard to beat a person who never gives up" - Babe Ruth

This is one of my favorite quotes.  Not just because of its application to athletics, it also applies to every facet of life.  Our Tigers prove this quote to be true every single day and I couldn't be more proud of them!!!

The football Tigers had their 2nd straight exciting week as they defeated Bolivar last Friday 48-42 in overtime.  Our Tigers came back from a 16 point deficit just before halftime to bring home the victory.  Tonight we will have our home opener as we host 2-0 Neosho.  The weather is perfect...District Office is providing free hot dogs...The Cutting Edge will be unveiling their new show...and it should be an exciting game so come out and support your Tigers!  Oh...its Black Out night!

Congratulations to the soccer Tigers as they defeated district opponent Waynesville on Thursday 1-0 for their 2nd win in a row.  Next week they will begin their COC schedule as they host Ozark on Tuesday and Carl Junction on Thursday.  Both nights will start with the JV contest at 4:30.

Here are the results for the girls golf team this week at the MSU Relays.  They will play in the Ozark Invitational next Thursday.
Jordyn Staley - 103
Kamryn Amstutz - 104
Hannah Scott - 106
Raelyn Schapeler - 110
Bailey Curry - 116

Team Score - 423
Team Place - 8th out of 14

Congratulations to the volleyball Tigers on their 2nd place finish in the Lori Endicott tournament last Saturday!  The girls followed that impressive showing by defeating Central and Bolivar this week as they improved their record to 10-1-1 on the season.  Next week they will travel to Glendale on Tuesday and to Fair Grove on Thursday.  Both nights will start with the freshmen at 5:00pm.

Congratulations to the softball Tigers on their wins over Cassville and Kickapoo last week.  The girls lost a heartbreaker at Nixa on Thursday but look to bounce back next week as they host Neosho on Tuesday and travel to Webb City on Thursday.  Both games start at 5:00pm.

Good Luck to the cross country Tigers as they open their season this Saturday in Lebanon.  They will run again next Thursday in Carthage.  Good luck Tigers!

PS - In varsity contests so far this Fall, the Tigers are 18-5-3 in all sports combined!  Yeah...we're pretty good.  :-)
High School
This week is a short week with staff professional development on Friday, September 2nd.  Monday, September 5th, school will not be in session as it is Labor Day.  Next Friday, September 9th, marks the mid-1st quarter.  Mid-quarter grades will be available early the following week.

WHS has facilitated an intervention time between 3rd and 4th hours for several years.  Last year, a committee researched and reviewed the Tigers Need Time (TNT) program.  Some changes have been implemented this year to facilitate other student needs.  All students in TNT are assigned a study hall or homeroom.  If meeting certain academic requirements, students can elect to move into rewards.  Teachers continue to assign math tutoring groups and provide an ACT prep option during this time.  On Wednesday, students began moving from their home room or study hall to any teacher for tutoring.  The intent is to accommodate any student needing assistance and support.  The TNT committee led by Mr. Wead, Asst Principal, will monitor the progress of changes and adjust as needed.  We are excited about the possibilities for students during this time!

Homecoming is quickly approaching.  This year's homecoming week will be September 12-16.  More information will become available on the high school website.

It is GREAT to be a Tiger!

Orchard Hills
We are so blessed to have a group of people who are willing to invest in our school and community. On August 20th, RedTree Church hosted a back-to-school bash at Orchard Hills. There were games, inflatables, food, and a movie. It was a night of free fun and a chance for the Orchard community to come together. Many students and parents attended.

Below are a couple of other events coming up that will allow families the opportunity to engage with our WOHE community.

  • Thursday October 6th 7:15 a.m.-- WOHE will be hosting an All Pro Dad's breakfast. This is an opportunity for dad's, or any male influence, to have a free breakfast with their student(s) and to engage in a little conversation with their student(s) and other dads. Free food and a chance to hang with your kiddo. Would love to have a room full!
  • Friday October 7th 6:00-- 8:00 p.m.-- WOHE will be hosting a fall carnival. There will be games, food, and fun. Each grade level and department team will be hosting a game/event and PTO will have dinner available for purchase. We hope this is a fun evening for the WOHE community to enjoy together.

Our school year has been a huge success so far. We look forward to partnering with our community to continuing on this path.

As September rolls around, our students are busy in the application and interview process for Leadership Roles around the school.  Our goal for this school year is to have all 2nd-4th grade students take on a leadership position, then serve as a mentor to a Kindergarten or 1st grade student for these roles in the spring.  Students are eager to get started in their new roles and we are looking forward to seeing them shine!  In addition to student leadership teams, our students are also busy learning and living out the 7 habits.  Students have also been challenging their current paradigms and taking on a "growth mindset".  It is exciting to watch our students continue to grow!

Please join us for our Parent Orientation on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 8th to lay out the road map for this school year.  Teachers will be holding 2 classroom orientation sessions and we will have an all-school Leader in Me session as well.

Our PTO Fundraiser will also be taking place this month.  Our goal is to replace the existing water fountains with new filtered fountains that will have a water bottle filling station to encourage students to drink more water.  Your help in supporting our students and our school is greatly appreciated!

Enjoy the holiday weekend!

South
Willard South is showing their TRUE COLORS this year through The Leader in Me.  Last year, we introduced the 7 Habits, by Stephen Covey, to students and staff.  This year we have started our journey of developing student leaders by having staff attend a three day summer training on fully embedding the 7 Habits at Willard South.  This process will help us bring our new school mission statement of Empowering all to serve, learn and lead to life this year.

We have also started the transformation of leadership throughout our building.  You can find new murals, posters, banners and freshly painted walls around every corner.  A special thank you to all of the staff members who have brought The Leader in Me to life at Willard South!  Please make sure you follow us on Facebook to see our journey of developing life-long leaders!
