District Office

Willard is losing many high quality individuals to retirement this year.  I could write about several, sharing how they have changed kids' lives throughout their career.  Among this group is a member of my administrative team.  Dr. Rhonda Bishop, Principal at Orchard Hills Elementary, is retiring from K-12 Public Education.  Dr. Bishop is an educational champion.  I have known her for many years.  She always impressed me with her drive for self-improvement and her passion to help students.

I have had the privilege to introduce Dr. Bishop to groups as well as write letters of recommendation on her behalf.  In these introductions, I have shared that "NO ONE loves kids more than Rhonda Bishop!"  This is not just a simple introduction it is how I truly feel.  I have seen Dr. Bishop drive 200 miles to take a student a laptop while in the hospital and arrange for "Skype" in the classroom so the student could remain a part of the class.  I have known when she has personally tutored students during the year and throughout the summer simply to get a student back on track with their peers.  I have witnessed her demand excellence, challenge mediocrity, and refuse to accept failure as an option for student.  She has led a team who have opened a neighborhood school and created a community based culture at Orchard Hills. Dr. Bishop is a teacher at heart, she loves students like they were her own and I count it a blessing to call her my colleague and friend!

I have no doubt that she will find new ways to be a champion for kids!

Have a great weekend!

Proactive Coaching - "If we take the time to get young people to understand the power of trust and teamwork, instilling it will become a whole lot easier.  When a young athlete can learn to set aside some of their personal ambitions for the greater good of the group they often come to the realization that their personal ambitions and those of the team are one and the same.  That becomes an incentive for all the teams in their lives - including their family.  The ripple effect of intentional coaching and parenting..."

This is so true!!!!

Central Elementary School

It has been a great week at Willard Central!  Our 4th grade students celebrated their time at WC with a graduation party at the Tower Club.  Our students participated in etiquette training for the big evening and the efforts paid off with a great evening and wonderful memory for all.  The staff was greatly impressed with our students, their manners and the enjoyable evening we shared together.  They are a wonderful group of leaders and we know they will shine as they head to the Intermediate School next year.

On Friday, our students braved the cloudy weather for an amazing Field Day while sharing in some class games and fun activities together.  Hungry, Hungry Hippo, Minion Ball and the giant slip and slide were student (and staff) favorites.  A special thanks to Coach Brown and Mr. Madden for their work in creating these great memories for our students.
