District Office
Teacher Appreciation Week

I have no way to communicate the degree to which I appreciate Willard Teachers.  Teaching is an incredibly hard job and so many of our Willard professionals make it "look easy"!  I assure you that it only looks easy on the surface.  Willard teachers spend many, many, hours above and beyond the school day preparing for lessons, grading student assessments, researching for new motivational and relative information, seeking out professional development opportunities, coaching teams, directing choirs / bands / theater groups, writing curriculum, communicating with parents, and many other things prior to heading home to their personal family.  Most take home emotional issues which involved their students.

Students lean on their teachers many times as a second mom or dad, counselor, and mentor.  I know that Mrs. Stica, Mrs. Baker, and Coach Chambers (my personal teachers) were major influences in my life and helped to shape me into who I am today.  I am proud to be a part of this amazing group of people and I want to personally thank them for all their time, efforts, and energy for Willard students.

If you have not communicated with a teacher and told them how much you appreciate their efforts, drop them a note, e-mail, or phone call today.

Have a great weekend!

A huge congratulations to Sage Whiting on qualifying out of the district golf tournament last week!  Sage will be competing in the Sectional Tournament at Old Kinderhook on Monday.  Good luck Sage!

Our soccer Tigers are now 14-5 on the season and we just learned that they received the #1 seed in the district tournament in Branson!  The girls will take on the host school, Branson, on Monday, May 18th at 5:00pm in the semifinal round.  The championship match will be held on Wednesday in Branson.  Congratulations to the girls on winning the championship of the Willard Tournament last weekend!  The girls defeated Fair Grove, Aurora, and Bolivar to take home first place.  They then defeated COC opponent, Neosho, on Tuesday.  Next week, they will travel to Greenwood on Monday, host Ozark on Tuesday, and travel to Branson on Thursday.  Good luck ladies!

Congratulations to our girls track program on taking home first place in the JV COC meet!  By the way, the boys JV team finished 2nd so great job Tigers!  The boys varsity team then took home 3rd place in the varsity meet yesterday in Nixa.  The track Tigers are done until next Saturday as they travel to Rolla for the district track meet.

Congratulations to the baseball Tigers on their victory over Carthage on Tuesday!  The Tigers have had a roller coaster season but are looking to get hot at the right time as they head into district play.  Next week, they will travel to Harrison, Ark. on Monday in a varsity only game at 6:00pm. This is a change in the original schedule. They will then host East Newton on Tuesday and will travel to Carl Junction on Thursday to end the regular season.  Districts will be held in Lebanon this year and the boys received the #2 seed in the tournament!  They will open play on Monday, May 18th in Lebanon vs. the winner of the Waynesville/Hillcrest game.

On Wednesday, May 6, the 2015 Senior Scholarship Night took place in the WHS Theater.  First, a special 'Thank you' to Mrs. Montgomery, senior counselor, and the entire guidance office for organizing such an awesome event.  As well, I want to brag on our senior class a minute.  At scholarship night, approximately $3.2 million, yes million, was awarded to seniors.  As well, more than 8,500 community service hours were recognized by Missouri A+ students.  In the end, I was most impressed with the comradery and sincere happiness shown towards peers.  I look forward to recognizing such great accomplishments next year with the class of 2016.  Truly this class has set the bar high!

Senior finals are next Monday and Tuesday, May 11-12.  Mandatory graduation practice is Friday, May 15, at 9 AM.  Remember, we are at JQH on May 16, 8 PM, for graduation.  Doors open at 7 PM.

8th graders will be visiting the high school next Thursday, May 14.  This is the district-wide Transition Day.  Counselors, administration, and student leaders visit with incoming students, share opportunities that exist, and provide tours of the building.  It is a great time for students to acclimate to the new surroundings.

Absence exemption forms and finals schedules are available for 9th - 11th students.  These students' finals are scheduled for May 20 - 22.  Students are released at 11:30 on May 22.

On Saturday May 2nd, athletes from across Southwest Missouri participated in 'A Sporting Chance' state track and field meet at Branson Junior High.  Events included softball throw, tennis ball throw, running (50M, 100M, 200M), and jumping.  WMS was well represented by the following student athletes:  Grace Ussery, Josiah Ortlieb, Aidan Earl, and Mark Seeley.  These athletes did an amazing job representing themselves as well as our school.  Way to go!  #tigerpride #winners

Check out the video of Tassi Bolin clearing 9'3" @ the Nixa Medal Meet. Tassi has set a new 7th grade girls Pole Vault record of 9'3" and also set a new COC record of 9'0". Kaitlyn Burson also set a new school record for 7th grade girls' shot put with a throw of 35'5 1/4".  Congratulations to these two young ladies and their accomplishments!  Pole Vault Record Holder

The WMS archery team headed to the National Archery Tournament early this morning.   We received news that they did very well as a team.  Here are some of the highlights so far: The WMS archery team shot a "team best" for the year.  They had a combined score of 3216.  The following shooters shot their personal best at the tournament: Sarah Kiesewetter, Brandon White, Addison Shaw, Breven Jones, Cody Adams, Emma Bingham, Emalee Flatness, Mariah Steward, and Ian Lacy.  WAY TO GO!!!!  Currently the WMS team is in 3rd place of the 115 middle schools that competed today.

With the school year winding down WIS has had lots of activities going on.  Last week 175 Red, Pink, and Silver teams students graduated from the DARE program.  We are so appreciative of Chief Tom McClain for his efforts in teaching all of the classes and encouraging our students to make positive choices.
Yesterday our 5th graders made the fun trip to Branson to experience the Dixie Stampede.  This is a great trip for our students and we owe a big thanks to our PTO for paying a large portion of the student cost.  6th grade wrapped up the day with our annual year-end party for them to cap off their two years at WIS.  We had a great turn out and the evening was filled with food, music, and fun.
Looking forward to next week we want to encourage everyone to come out for the annual WIS talent show.  The event will be at the HS theater on Thursday evening starting at 5:30 and promises to have some really impressive student acts.  Admission is free and we will be doing our Spring fundraiser chance-to-win drawings during intermission.  We hope to see everyone there!

Happy Teacher Appreciation to all Willard teachers! Willard East teachers felt VERY appreciated this week. Thank you to everyone in our community who

helped us celebrate and provided treats and gifts.

One of our most fun days this week was "Dress like your favorite teacher." We surprised Coach J by declaring it Coach J Day and everyone dressed like Coach J. Super fun! Coach J will be joining the Willard High School staff next year and coach the Lady Tigers Basketball team.

Next Friday is Field Day!

Our 4th grade students enjoyed the beautiful day in Jefferson City on Thursday. Thank you Representative Messenger for providing pizza for lunch and taking care of us.

As they look ahead to next week, our 4th grade students will enjoy their 4th grade celebration at the Tower Club.  The evening will give us a chance to celebrate our students time at WC while sending them off with a great memory and a charge for being leaders for their new school in the coming year.

Today, our 2nd grade students served family, friends and guests with their annual hotdog restaurant business project.  The students were excited to shine as they shared their hard work.

We had a full week last week!  We would also like to thank Mrs. Mello, Mrs. Chatman, Mr. Fornshell and Mrs. Roth for a great Fine Arts Night.  We are blessed to have such talented teachers supporting our students and the arts!  We would also like to thank our amazing PTO for putting a wonderful Family Fun Night and supporting our school.  It was a great evening for students and families as we raised money to support out PTO!

Yesterday was an exciting day for WOHE Fourth Graders!  We took our field trip to the Capitol in Jefferson City. Students spent time in the museum, toured the Governor's Mansion, hiked to the Whispering Gallery and were announced on the House of Representatives Floor during session.

The group also went to the Missouri National Guard Museum.  Who can go to Jefferson City without visiting Central Dairy?  Not us!  We had a wonderful afternoon treat.  Thanks to all the parents and our great 4th grade teachers, Mrs. Blackburn, Miss Gill, and Miss Jones for planning a wonderful trip!
