Sharpen the Saw!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year!  Yesterday morning a record enrollment of over 4500 students entered the doors of Willard Public Schools.  This is over 125 students greater than last year.  They came to buildings and were met by nicely cut grass and beautiful clean and waxed floors.  However, the most important feature was the smiling staff who were ready to receive students for a new school year.  The weather is cooperating and we could not ask for a better way to begin school!

Tuesday 8-12, over 600 Willard staff members came together to begin the year.  It was a great morning!  Breakfast, conversation, prayer, music, video, cellular participation, laughter, and camaraderie filled the High School Gym.  I was able to spend a few minutes to introduce the theme for the year which is "Sharpen the Saw".  This phrase has two basis in thought:  First, it is the seventh habit that Steven Covey outlined in his classic leadership book "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People".  It is also referred to in one of my favorite proverbs.  Proverbs 27:17 :  "As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend"   The take-away is that we have the ability to help each other get better, grow, and improve our skills.  It is difficult to grow in isolation.  I am incredibly grateful and honored to work alongside such skilled and committed professionals.  If you have a child in our schools I challenge you to be an effective partner with your child's teachers.  Parents who are involved and engaged in their child's learning will help them become successful.

It is going to be an incredible school year!
Have a good weekend!
