Administration
Board of Education
Celebration is a critical element in successful organizations.  Each time the Administrative Team meets we begin the meeting sharing celebrations. These celebrations are both school related as well as celebrations of family and loved ones.

The end  of the school year brings celebration throughout our district.  Class parties, field days, assemblies, and of course graduation.  We celebrate for many reasons but most of all to recognize the accomplishments and growth of young people.

I encourage parents to continue that growth throughout the summer.  Just because young people are not in school does not mean that they can't continue to learn. Our area is filled with learning opportunities beyond school.  Parents don't have to go further then their back yard to begin.  Go on a hike and examine the ecosystem of the trail, gaze at the stars and discover the constellations, go to the nature center, discovery center, check out the public library and participate in activities, attend church camp or Vacation Bible School.

Learning opportunities surround us beyond the doors of the school.  Those shared opportunities with your young person will not only help them to grow it will create memories and help the entire family to grow together!

Have a great Summer!

Several years ago, the Willard Public Schools Board of Education created a special recognition award called the "Excellence In Education" award.  It is typically given to a very select individual who, either through their service in the district as a staff member, board member or student, has left an indelible mark on the district.

I can attest to what an honor it is to be awarded this recognition, and I have had the honor to pass this along to a few special folks in my tenure on the board. This year, the Board recognized two such outstanding retirees with the Excellence Award.  Mrs. Cindy Miles has not only given a lifetime to teaching students, but she used her calm and endearing manner to advocate for teachers and staff in the district over the past several years as a key leader with the local MSTA, and as an integral leader in salary negotiations as a chair of the salary committee.  She quickly earned the respect of the administration and board with her honest, common sense approach to tackling one of the toughest parts of budget development each year, salaries for our staff.  She will be missed as not only a quality teacher who has gotten many Willard students off to a great start in Kindergarten, but for her leadership in the district, as well!

The second honoree is one who is most often only seen from the back!  Mr. Chris Church, Director of Bands for Willard has created, with his staff, one of the premier band programs in the state and region.  The Cutting Edge marching band has been a hallmark of excellence in the district for years, thanks to Mr. Church's leadership.  But, more important than the fine band program, Mr. Church has long been an advocate of pursuing excellence within the district, serving on many leadership committees, and offering his help and support through many different projects across the district. His unique perspective of working with such a large group of students and families from grades 6-12 has been valued by the administration and board of education for many years.  He leaves a legacy of greatness as the "leader of the band", but more important, being an advocate for Willard Schools.

Congratulations to Mrs. Miles and Mr. Church!

Does it seem like our Tigers are having more success than usual?  Does it feel like I'm constantly praising them?  Well.....here are some numbers that support that:
8 - The number of district championships that Willard has played in this year.....school record

5 - The number of district championships that Willard has WON this year....also a school record!

Congratulations to the Lady Tiger soccer team AND the baseball Tigers on BOTH winning their district tournaments!  It was a very special week as the baseball Tigers defeated Neosho, Webb City, and Republic on their way to their 3rd district championship in a row!  They will host Nixa next Tuesday in the Sectional game at 5:00pm.  The Quarterfinals will be on Thursday.  Location and time TBD.

Then the Lady Tigers continued the success as they defeated Mt. View Liberty and Hillcrest to claim their 2nd district championship in program history!!!!!  The girls will travel to Carl Junction on Tuesday to play in their Sectional match.  Their Quarterfinal will be next Saturday.

Not to be outdone....we had 8 track Tigers qualify out of the district track meet in Jefferson City last week!  They will compete in the Sectional meet tomorrow in Eldon. The top 4 in each event will qualify for the State Meet in Jefferson City the following Saturday.  Good luck Tigers!

A special congratulations to Marshall Faulkner on qualifying for, and playing in, the State golf tournament held in Cape Girardeau last week.  He played one of the toughest courses in the state and did a great job!

Last week, the WHS family sent out an awesome Class of 2014 graduates.  This week, the WHS family welcomed the Class of 2018 during Freshmen Transition Day on Tuesday, May 20.  I encouraged our graduates and our new students with the same three challenges: be an organizer, be a communicator, and be a problem solver.

Finals start on Friday, May 23.  Choir students are headed to the Bahamas beginning Sunday, May 25.

Summer school starts June 2nd at 7:30 AM.  Additional information can be found in the guidance office.

Congratulations to Mr. Church, Mrs. Schnakenbberg, and Mrs. Steele on stellar careers at WHS!  They each have been tremendous role models, student advocates, and consummate professionals for Willard students.  These three staff members will be missed, never forgotten, and always welcome at WHS.

It is GREAT to be a Tiger!

The end of a school year always brings mixed emotions for those of us that do the "school" thing every day.  It is a great sense of accomplishment for the individual growth of our students and a recognition of the time and effort involved to make that growth happen.  It is excitement over getting to spend time enjoying the summer while also knowing that friends are going to be missed.  It is looking forward to being a grade older in school while being anxious about the uncertainty of new classes and making new friends.

We at WIS appreciate the opportunity we have had this year to get to know and educate our current students. We wish our 6th grade class the best of luck in their futures and look forward to seeing our current 5th grade class as 6th graders in August.

Be safe and enjoy your summer vacation!

As we wrap another successful year at Willard East we would like to thank our school community for all they do to support Willard East and the rest of the Willard Schools! It takes all of us working together to educate our children. We couldn't ask for a better support system than the one we have here in Willard, MO.

Today we celebrate our final Tiger Pride assembly. We will be honoring those teachers who will be leaving us for a new phase of their lives. A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Ferguson, Librarian Miller, Mrs. Overcash, Mrs. Sleme, Ms. Sauer, Mrs. Teal and Mr. Rosebrough. It takes special people to serve our children and these are some of the most amazing teachers/staff our kids could ask for.

We are also excited to team up with Willard North Elementary for Field Day on Tuesday May 27th! It will be an exciting day with 600 kids at the Willard football and soccer sports complex!
Have a great summer and we will see you back at The Pride in 14-15!

Band is having solo ensembles throughout the day today.  Tuesday, band will be taking students on a field trip for the end of another great year.

This year we implemented the 1:1 technology and it is time for laptop collections.  So far today has ran smooth as we collect the laptops for summer clean up.

Tonight is the Bids for Kids.  Come out to the middle school from 5-7 pm and bid on our students trash to treasure projects.  We also have several donated items that will be raffled off during the event.  Don't miss out!!

Science has finished out the year with a project based learning around recycling.  They have had multiple guest speakers from the community about recycling and alternative energy. Many great projects are on display in the WMS library.  Also we had 2 groups present their ideas to the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent,
and Director of Communications.  Each group did a great job in their presentation!

Countdown, countdown, countdown. busy busy busy! This is the feeling around WOHE these past two weeks! There is a lot to report!

On Tuesday May 13th, our 4th grade students made a trip to Jefferson City to visit our capital. We met with Representative Burlison and Senator Dixon. Our students also got the special treat of going to "the top of the dome".  It was a great experience!

Thursday night, May 15th we hosted our annual WOHE Talent Show!  We had some fabulous talent!  We will have a review of the talent show at our Tiger Pride Assembly on the last day of school.  The assembly begins at 9:00 am.
On Wednesday May 21st, our 4th grade students presented "Market Day" to the students of WOHE.  Students were given WOHE money and they could purchase items the 4th grade vendors provided.  The activity was a great lesson in economics and everyone enjoyed all the goods and services!
Thursday, May 22nd Author Judy Young visited with all our students during library today. She also signed books she had written. Students were excited to learn that Mrs. Young used to be a Willard staff member!
Today, is WOHE's 3rd and 4th grade MAP celebration. We have a day of fun filled activities for our 3rd and 4th grade students who worked hard during our testing times. Our super dads are grill masters today as they keep the grill hopping with hot dogs and burgers for the kids.
Next week is our last two days of school!  Just remember there is NO school on Monday, May 26th in honor of Memorial Day and Wednesday, May 28th is a 1/2 day for students as we release at 12:30 p.m.

We did it!  The 2013-2014 school year is coming to a close and as I reflect back on the challenges and successes, I can confidently say it was a year of growth in many ways, but we did it!

At the beginning of the year, this was our challenge to GROW and I am convinced that all of us including students, staff and parents have done just that.  We have grown in our knowledge, our compassion and our commitment to being the best we can be.

It has been a privilege to work with your students, to support our staff and to continually strive for excellence. I am excited to see the new mission statement "Student Focused, Strongly Connected, Success Driven" come to life.  Great job and have a great summer!

Our offices will be closed for summer June 10-July 14. Summer office hours are M-Th 7:30-4:00, F 7:30-2:30.

Next week we will celebrate our last Tiger Pride Assembly of the year on Tuesday, May 27th at 2:30. Don't miss the reveal of our new school song lead by Mrs. Christensen.

The last day of school is Wednesday, May 28th and students will be dismissed at 12:30.  You will receive their grade cards also.  Just a reminder that you can also access more information through Mastery Connect by looking through your child's tracker.
On behalf of the all of the faculty and staff at Willard South Elementary...HAVE A SAFE SUMMER AND KEEP READING!

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe."  This quote from Anatole France resonates at this time of year, when we each have a moment in all the hustle and bustle to reflect on the year we've just completed.

This was a year of change and challenges, hard work and determination to grow as a district in new initiatives to bring exciting educational experiences to all Willard students.  Time never stands still in education, and next year will likely bring more growth.  I have appreciated the opportunity to grow alongside great educators this year.

My hope for everyone is a relaxing and rejuvenating break - just enough time to step away and refresh - before thoughts again turn to preparing for a new school year.  Enjoy your students in these final days, and have a wonderful summer!

Last Night Willard North was full of fun and dance with our end of the year Celebration of Learning.  Students were able to go the the book fair with their parents as well as go around to different stations for games and prizes.  It was the perfect ending to a great year.  Thank you to all the volunteers, PTO, teachers, and staff who made this a special night for the students and their families.

Enjoy your three day weekend and Memorial Day!
