I enjoy having conversations with great kids!!!  This week I had the opportunity to have a discussion with Robert Mitchals.  Robert is a Senior at the high school.  Robert has been selected as Missouri's candidate to run for a national officer position with DECA.

DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America.  It is an international association of high school and college students and teachers of marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality, and marketing sales and service.  The organization prepares leaders and entrepreneurs for careers and education in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and other business areas. It is one of the ten organizations listed as Career and Technical Student Organizations by the United States Department of Education.

Robert will campaign during the International Competition, and if elected, will serve 13 US states, and Manitoba, Canada, during next year.  Robert came asking a bit of advice and help to support his candidacy. He is a very impressive young man and will be a great representative of Willard Public Schools.  I wish him the best in the campaign!

Have a great weekend!

Congratulations to the baseball Tigers on winning the championship of the Willard Lead-Off Tournament by defeating Rogersville in the championship game 11-1!  This runs their record to 5-1 on the young season.  They will be in Branson tonight playing Brookland HS at 6:00pm and then Green County Tech at 8:30pm.  They will then play at Hollister at 9:00 a.m. vs. Pocahantas HS.  Next week they will host Parkview and Miller on Saturday.

Congratulations to the Lady Tiger soccer team on their victory over HIllcrest this week!  Their game vs. Joplin last night was cancelled due to weather and there has been no make-up date determined at this point.  Tonight the girls will travel to Marshfield with the varsity playing at 5:00pm.  There will be no JV game tonight.  Next week they will travel to Bolivar on Monday, host Branson on Tuesday, and travel to Poplar Bluff on Friday.

The track team just can't catch a break with the weather as the second varsity meet of the year was cancelled last night in Carthage.  It will be made up next Monday.

Good luck to the golf team as they will be playing in the Springfield Invitational at Hickory Hills CC on Monday!

On Saturday, March 29th, Willard High School was the host site for the MCCGA Winter Guard Championships for 60 groups from Illinois, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri.  Several thousand spectators and competitors passed through WHS.  We are very proud of the Willard Middle School (3rd place), and Willard High School (5th place) Winter Guards for their performances and results.  This is the season-ending show for everyone.  We also want to thank the Army of volunteers who helped to put on this event for the 8th year in a row.

Willard High School student, Robert Mitchals, will be running for National DECA Office in the upcoming months for the Central Region Vice President.  Robert has been enlisting the assistance of several leaders in order to gain knowledge, strategy, and funding to run a strong campaign.  If successful, Robert would represent Willard High School, Willard Schools, his community, state, and region which include multiple states and part of Canada, all of next year.  He would have opportunity for speaking engagements all across the country and in front of thousands of other students.  This is a great honor and opportunity for Robert and Willard to shine.  We are excited and proud!

Prom is Saturday, April 5, at the Oasis in Springfield.  The prom committee members and teaching staff have done a terrific job of preparing and I am confident for another fun, successful, and safe evening.

April 12th, WHS will be hosting the spring ACT.  Every seat has been reserved.  The most recent report from the ACT Teacher Action Committee shared that the trend is to prepare better and potentially take the ACT 2 or more times to achieve the best score possible.  WHS has several opportunities for ACT tutoring which can be viewed from our website or by contacting the guidance office.

EOC's are coming April 21 - May 2.  Students and staff are reviewing and making final preparations for another successful year of assessments.

It is GREAT to be a Tiger!

Last weekend, the WMS Speech team had their first tournament of the season. Our team entered eight events and broke into the finals in four of them. Grace Black took 5th and Hailey Rawhouser took 7th in Dramatic Interpretation. Ashlyn Wadle came in 5th in Storytelling. Grace Black and Ashlyn Wadle came in Second with their Dramatic Duo.  Congratulations!!

The Archery Team shot 3169 in the state tournament this past weekend. The team placed 6th out of 20 middle schools in the state of Missouri. This qualifies them to attend Nationals! Great job to our WMS Archers!

Last Saturday, our WMS Winter Guard took third place out of nine schools at their tournament. These girls work really hard at their routines and we congratulate them on this win!

The Little Mermaid performances are SOLD OUT!  Best of luck to each participant and a big thank you to all the hard work  Ms. Graves, Mrs. Witt and Mrs. Maerke have put into the musical.

Willard North had a busy week with the start of the 2nd grade music program on Monday.  Students performed songs from famous Broadway shows.  Thank you to Mrs. Reed who always does an amazing job.  It certainly looked like a Broadway production.

We had a great turn out to McTeacher Night on Monday as well.  Our 3rd and 4th grade teachers as well as special area teachers came out to help serve and sell cookies to parents and students.

Tuesday night 3rd grade showed off all their hard work at History Makers Night.  Each student presented a famous historian he/she had researched by dressing up as that person and talking to family and friends about that person.

Finally, we are wrapping up Career Week with kindergarten.  Thank you to all the parents who came out to share their occupation with the students!

Have a wonderful weekend and be safe!

Today is an exciting professional  development day for the teachers! The newest professional development model for teachers is the #Edcamp phenomenon. The structure of an Edcamp is very informal and teachers sign up to lead "conversations" about teaching and learning instead of presenting formally.

Teachers all over the United States have fallen in love with this model of professional development. The inaugural Edcamp was held in May of 2010 and there have been 100's ever since. Many of our teachers have attended Edcamps here in the midwest. #EdcampKC, #EdcampSTL, #EdcampSGF, and #EdcampOKC.

Central Elementary School

April is here and Spring and learning are in the air.  Our Kindergarten students are working hard to prepare for their music program on Tuesday evening at 7:00.  Our 1st grade students have been busy publishing their works of writing to share with students across the building.  In 2nd grade, students and teachers are diving in to their money and economics unit preparing for their Hotdog Restaurants on May 2nd.  3rd and 4th grade students are continuing to move ahead in their learning and preparations for MAP testing in a couple of weeks.

The Willard Central Family would like to welcome Mrs. Lisa Lassley as the teacher of the district's Life Skills Program.  Mrs. Lassley has served as a cross-categorical special services teacher at Willard North for the past 3 years.  Before this, she completed her student teaching in the Life Skills classroom at Willard Central.  Welcome back to WC Mrs. Lassley!

Camp MAP is up in running at WOHE!  This year, after a lot of discussion, we have changed the format to better serve student needs. Each 3rd and 4th grade student attends a study skills session that is designed to hone their test taking skills. In addition some students work with the classroom teachers to better understand skills and objectives they may need more practice in. This new design has received positive feedback from our staff.  I appreciate all our teachers and staff for helping our students be the best that we can be!

Don't forget Friday is a half-day for students!
