Graduation 2013
274 Willard Seniors will end their K-12 experience tonight. I call it an experience because Willard Schools don't simply offer classes for kids. We help grow young people! One of the quotes in my graduation speech tonight is from a book that the Administrative Team is reading called: The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John Maxwell. Maxwell quotes:
"The greatest stretching seasons of life come when we do what we have never done, push ourselves harder, and reach in a way that is uncomfortable to us. That takes courage. But the good news is that it causes us to grow in ways we thought were impossible!"
The best teacher, coach, sponsor, boss, is one that helps people stretch. If we are going to improve ourselves, our school, our district, our organization, our community, we must grow.People that do not stretch become inflexible, sluggish, dormant, and inactive. At Willard Schools that is not acceptable. We do not run the conveyor belt at the pace of the slowest person. We encourage the slowest person to grow to the acceptable pace of the organization.(Which is a pretty tough pace!)School is about out.Graduates will proudly walk across the stage tonight.Teachers, staff, and Administrators are tired but we will finish strong even if we have to stretch a bit to do it!!
Have a great weekend!

Willard refuses to quit!!!!! Three of our sports are still competing for championships and nobody around here is surprised!
Congratulations to the baseball Tigers on their Class 5, District 12 championship on Tuesday! The boys defeated Webb City, 10-0, in the semifinals and defeated Neosho, 11-7, in the championship game. They will travel to Branson on Tuesday for the Sectional game. First pitch is at 5:00pm. The Quarterfinal game will be held on Thursday with location and time still to be determined. Good luck Tigers!
The soccer Lady Tigers got off to a good start in their district tournament by defeating Hillcrest in the semifinals, 2-1. They will play Republic today at 3:00pm for the championship. Pending a "Black and White" Tiger victory, we would host the Sectional game on Tuesday. Good luck ladies!!! A special congratulations to Maci Cotter and Lindsey Owens on signing letters of intent to play soccer next year at Central Methodist University.
Willard High School freshman Chloe Andrews rose to the occasion at the Class 4, District 5 Championships on Saturday at Camdenton. Andrews, the top-seeded 800m runner at the meet, led from start to finish and recorded a personal best 2:24.63. While Andrews was the only District champion, several Tigers earned their way to the next race. The top four in each event at the meet will continue their season next week at Ozark in the Sectional round. Senior Ali Frazier qualified for next week in two events, the shot put and the discus. Her discus throw of 113' 10" was the second-best of the day and her shot put throw of 35' 7 qualified third. Also throwing his way into the next round was senior Brady Fitch. Brady threw the discus 138' 9" to place third in the event. Senior Bailey Hession recorded a personal best in the 800m as well. Hession's third place finish (2:25.62) left her a second behind Andrews and completed a 1st /3rdfinish in the girl's 800m. Junior Daniel Horne placed 4th in the high jump with a jump of 5' 10". Juniors Z. Barr and Danielle Sanger joined the individual qualifiers with top four finishes in the 100m dash. Barr qualified second with an 11.33 and Sanger qualified 4th with a 12.80. Additional qualifiers were seniors Kolbe Kinghorn and Ramone Crews, who joined Horne and Barr in the 4 x 200m relay with a third place finish at 1:32.45. The Willard Tigers girls' team finished seventh of twelve teams and the boys'team finished eighth.

End of the year activities are in full swing! This week, our top iChoose students for the year enjoyed a beautiful spring day at Silver Dollar City to start the week. Tuesday saw our 4th quarter iChoose field trip to Springfield and our Silver team visiting OTC to explore what they have to offer after graduation. The middle of the week brought the last running club meeting and iChoose store of the school year. Thursday was our district wide transition day for 4th-8th grade students and 6th grade students celebrated their two years at WIS with their going away party. Today, Yellow team traveled to Ozark to visit Smallin Civil War cave as their team field trip. As next week is the last week of the school year it will be a another busy one. Hold on tight as we push to the end! Tom Davis Principal |

Looking back on the year, I can hardly believe that there are only 5 days of school left! On day 1, it seemed so far away. At this point, everyone is ready for a little vacation and will soon be enjoying a little rest from the routines of the school week. I would like to celebrate the outstanding teamwork, instruction and growth of all of our students this year. Each time we sit down for an annual IEP meeting or 504 plan review, I am amazed at just how much our students can accomplish in just 174 days, regardless of their disabilities, when they work hard every day and are supported by their family and teachers.
Just think back to all of the situations that you or your child thought seemed impossible to overcome this year, back to the time that you thought you couldn't possibly face another challenge, yet somehow you kept going-taking it a day at a time. John Maxwell writes, "The secret of your success is found in your daily routine." What you do everyday, how you think everyday, what you strive for everyday, will eventually turn into success everyday. 169 days later, look how far you've come! I challenge you to not let a day go by that you don't strive to do your best wherever you are, let's finish this last week strong!
