Dr. Medlin is a Grandpa!
My life has changed a great deal in the past week! It is not because I hurt my foot playing volleyball with Coach Rowetons PE class or even because it is snowing outside on May 3rd. It is because I was extended an official invitation to the Grandpa Club!!!!! My son Jarred, (Willard class of 2005) and his wife Jessica, became proud parents of a beautiful baby girl named Emery Jane Medlin. God has blessed her with perfection and I have met her digitally on Skype. I look forward to meeting her in person in June. My bucket list just became much bigger!!
Willard Public Schools continue to support employees and listen to their thoughts and needs. Health Insurance is always listed as the #1 Priority for employees. Costs continue to rise for quality health care. Federal and State governments continue to wrestle with the best strategy to offer coverage to individuals. Throughout the past 10 years Willard Schools have found ways to extend 100% Board Paid Health Care coverage to employees. The BOE approved to accept the additional costs to continue this effort for 2013-2014.
There are no crystal balls that can help us to understand if this can continue indefinitely. Next year the cost of health care will be at an annual cost of $4,881.84 per eligible employee per year. This is 14% of the base teacher salary. The total district cost is $2,649,778. In the next fiscal year we should have a greater understanding how Missouri and the US Government will extend coverage to citizens. This will be critical to our continued discussion. I am thankful and appreciative of the school board for their continued commitment of this important benefit. (This is important to Grandpa's and Granddaughters!)
Have a great weekend!

Spring sports is preparing for their district tournaments and we have a lot of celebrating to do so let's get to it!
The baseball Tigers are COC champs! After defeating the #1 ranked team in the state, Carthage, 6-1, the Tigers ran their record to 16-6 on the season and 6-1 in the COC. Congratulations to Coach McGee, his staff, and the players on a great regular season! We will be hosting the district tournament starting on May 11th. Our Tigers received the #2 seed (behind Carthage) and will open play vs the winner of the Republic/Webb City game on Monday, May 13th at 7:00pm. The championship game will be on Tuesday, May 14th at 6:00pm. Next week, the Tigers will travel to Bolivar on Monday and to Nixa on Thursday for non-conference games.
Congratulations to Marshall Faulkner, Robert Mitchals, and Eric Rodocker on qualifying for the Sectional golf tournament next Monday at Eagle Knoll Country Club in Jefferson City. All three did a great job at the district tournament on Monday at Greene Hills. Good luck guys!
The soccer Lady Tigers defeated Neosho this week but then fell to state ranked Nixa on Wednesday in a hard fought match. The girls are now 16-2 on the season! They have received the #1 seed in their district tournament being held at Republic. They will open play on Wednesday, May 15th. More details will be in next week's Pride. The girls will host Ozark next Tuesday for their only game of the week.
Willard High School senior Ali Frazier did not waste any time in her return to the shot put ring. After not competing in the event for several weeks, Frazier made her return count with a conference record throw of 38' 6 1/4". Her throw bettered the second place throw by nearly three feet and was less than a foot from her school record throw of earlier in the year. Frazier was one of two champions on the day, the other being freshman distance runner Chloe Andrews. Andrews captured the 1600m championship with a run of 5:32.18. The two paced the girls' team to a sixth place finish in the eight team conference. Also adding to the medal count for the girls was junior Danielle Sanger with a second place finish in the 100m (13.50). Andrews earned a silver medal in the 800m with a run of 2:30.68. Senior Bailey Hession finished third behind Andrews with a 2:32.19 earning the final medal for the Lady Tigers.
The Willard Tigers boys' track team was led by junior Z. Barr and senior Brady Fitch. Barr finished second in the 200m dash (23.14) and third in the 100m (11.94). Fitch captured second in the discus with a throw of 142' 11". Daniel Horne also brought home a medal with his third place finish in the high jump (6' 00). The 4 x 200m relay, consisting of Barr, Horne, senior Kolbe Kinghorn and senior Ramone Crews, earned the final medal for the boys' team with a third place finish in 1:33.65.
On Friday, Logan McReynolds, Patrick Pickens, Mitchell Kirkpatrick, Daniel Kis, and Noah Gilmore all recieved I ratings for their woodworking projects. Noah recieved 2nd place in the Advanced Wall Hanging division and Daniel and Mitchell both recieved the Grand Prize award for Advanced Wall Hanging and Novice Wall Hanging respectively. Noah, Daniel, and Mitchell have qualified for the State competition next week.

EOC assessments are completed. What a great job the WHS staff and students have done. From technology staff, substitute teachers, classroom teachers, special services staff, counselors, and instructional support specialists, WHS exhibited a team effort to assist our students in completing approximately 2000 individual assessments in just 2 weeks! The efforts of many including students has been awesome.
DECA, Choir, Art, and Industrial Technology students showed work and competed at festivals in late-April. Choir students received more than 30 1-ratings. Art brought back 17 awards from 25 pieces of art entered! Industrial Tech garnered several awards and qualified 3 students for state. Finally, DECA just returned from Anaheim, California, where they competed at the 67th Annual International Career Development Conference. Awesome results from lots of students and programs!
Prom is May 4th at the Oasis. Senior finals are May 13-14. Graduation will be May 17th. Last day for all other students is May 24th.
It is GREAT to be a Tiger!
