Everyone in Jerusalem that gazed at the cross saw it differently that day. Some saw a martyred prophet. Some saw a dangerous insurgent. Some saw a dying friend. But heaven brokenly watched a dying Son. What do you see when you look at a Christian cross? A religious emblem? A precious adornment? This Lenten Season, I invite you to look at the cross and see a Savior.
As we once again gaze at the old rugged cross, let this sacred season be an occasion for spiritual awakening. A time of spiritual healing. An opportunity to experience salvation. Our church will provide meaningful events that will make our Lenten journey life-changing.
"Cross Encounters" Series. During Lent I will share sermons that are focused on people's encounter with the cross of Jesus Christ.
Small Groups. A significant way of experiencing renewal during Lent is by joining a study group or a sharing group. I sincerely encourage you to consider:
Lenten Study. The title "Give Up Something Bad For Lent" is not meant to scare us but it is meant to inspire us to experience spiritual breakthrough by being free from emotions that are burdening us down. This is a great Lenten study.
Covenant Study. This sharing-group is patterned after the Wesley class meetings that ignited the Methodist spiritual movement. This is a group that will value sharing, accountability and prayer. Anyone is welcome to join.
Ash Wednesday, Feb. 10 "Come-and-Go". The imposition of ashes is a meaningful sign of our spiritual entry to the 40 Days of Lenten Season. Second, it's a great witness to people around us of our faith in Jesus Christ. I will offer a "come-and-go" imposition of ashes 10am to 12noon and in the evening from 5-6pm. I will be in the sanctuary to assist you as you receive ashes, be in a short prayer, and light a candle., and then you can go.
Other Lenten events will be announced later like Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Sunrise and Easter Service.
I am looking forward to journeying with you this Lent. And remember, as Jesus exhibited for us two thousand years ago, all our Calvary crosses can also lead to a powerful experience of a spiritual resurrection!
